Frickers is awesome. Good atmosphere. Lots of TVs. Usually has hot girls in tight clothes. Plus, Mike is going to be there. That is enough for me. lmao

I've only river fished once ....not for me . Now the jig bite on the reefs, thats a blast . Can't wait to get some jig bite fishing in .
I'm with ya 100%. I've fished the maumee and the sandusky many times over the years. I've had a lot of really good days too. Even so, none of those really good days can hold a candle to a mediocre day on the reefs. Fugg that shoulder to shoulder bullshit. Put me in a boat with a cooler, radio playing, pumping purple hair jigs all day long.

I agree that Frickers is the bomb. Kids 10 and under eat for free, wings are great, and the beer is always cold.

I like river fishing on the miserable days, to stay away from the crowds. Always try and leave early on these types of days though, because a green shirt will most likely met you at your truck with 1,000 questions. Just because they are bored and have nothing better to do. I will also agree that catching them on open water is way more fun. But those of us that can't afford the maintenance of a boat are limited.

Plus Mike usually gets us good prices on Beer for the night. Giles, I don't think I've been stopped by a DNR officer in over 10 years. Then it was only a guy who grew up down the road from us that would stop me and shoot the shit. There's even times later in the run when I will have 4 fish on my stringer that barely make 15 inches, and Im always sure they will stop and check. I think I see them hammer more boaters nowadays and people littering than snaggers. With the floating jigheads making everything so easy, I haven't seen a blatant underwater unhook'em snagger in a few years that I can remember.

For anybody wondering what it's about, there's usually about 15-20 of us in there just shooting the shit and picking up orders of tackle that someone in the group makes. A lot of beer get drank and food eaten. I'd say a good portion of us bring our better half's to keep us in line. And just as everybody starts getting a good buzz on, Randy walks in and lights the place up with the Swantucky laugh. Just a good time

Haven't gone to the river in years. Used to enjoy it, but then again, never went in a boat on the river. I also never got to experience the jig-run. Heard a lot of real good stories about it though and seen some Monster fish come of it.
So no more Jigs W/Twister tails with the hook twisted to 9:30 position? (Been about 12 years for me).

90% of us use Carolina rigged floating jigs with tails. No need to snag fish when they can be caught legally.

That is quite interesting. I like the idea for sure. As you well know, back "when" we pretty much reeled medium-fast and hope it was close to the mouth.

Seem some pretty funny stuff with the "Wang-Chung Clan" Seen their jigs get bitten off and then threw back in the water. That brought some funny looks (They were crowding a catch) Also seen my buddy jerk the rod straight to the right and crack one in the forehead......All 4 decided to go fish somewhere else :smiley_coolpeace:

Mike, my boy loves the shirts you sent us. He always wants to wear his fish shirts anytime he sees them hanging in his closet. His babysitter asked me one day while picking him up, "What the hell is the Maumee swim team?" I lied for a minute and told her he joined a club as a 3 year old last spring and he is able to swim the current from one side to the other. She about shit for a minute before I fessed up, haha

I will admit when I was younger, that is how we caught them early in the run. And we always had colored yarn tied all over our nets so the Wardens couldn't see where you hooked them. I bet 99% of the people up there employed the grip and rip method before the floaters came around. I remember my Dad and his buddies would take a large empty soup can, pinch it together on one side to form a spout, clam vice grips to the other side and bend it 90 degrees to make the handle, and then melt lead right over the stove in our kitchen with everyone making and assembly line. One setting up molds with hooks, 1 guy melting and pouring, and one guy trimming the excess and giving the hooks the old "Maumee twist". All this happening with the whole family inhaling the lead fumes. That's why I don't believe the bad stuff you hear about lead That's why I don't believe the bad stuff you hear about lead That's why I don't believe the bad stuff you hear about lead That's why I don't believe the bad stuff you hear about lead
