Morel Mushrooms.

Guys I have been cutting them in half after I find them and vacume sealing them for the last 5 years. I never put them in water until I thaw them.

But we eat them a lot and I never have any left after Thanksgiving..... They tast like I just picked them as long as they don't touch water before you freeze them. just my 2 cents

Good advice! Was wondering about vacuum sealing them. Don't they get smashed when you seal them in though?

Yep if someone sees one we all "freeze" because more than likely we are already in a patch of them and the last thing you want is a big 'ole yellow to get stepped on!

I guarantee in the past I've been in the middle of giant patches to only come out with 2 or 3 of the first ones that pop out due to not taking the time.

Man it's a great feeling when they just keep poppin into sight.

Where do you look? I've never mushroom hunted

Buckle up buddy. Its a blast. You'll be hooked. What a beautiful time of year to be in the woods with everything coming back to life.

Dying elm tree's is a great place to start. Alot of times im looking up identfying elm tree's, and bounce around from elm to elm checkin around the base of each tree.

Thats simply a starting point. Im no pro.

Another thing is 'establishing' yourself as s mushroom hunter. Once you do it long enough, you'll have 'go to' areas where you have had previous success.

One year ago today we started finding yellows here in Athens Co...

I doubt the blacks are up yet this year. It's been my experience that late springs are better over all for the mushroom season. When it warms up early they seem to always get messed up by a brief cold snap or dry spell. Plenty of precip so far this spring.

The biggest I've ever found was back behind my shed underneath some pine trees. It was as big as a beer can, small by some comparisons just the same. As a general rule, we've never had luck looking in pines, so I was quite surprised.
