Mushrooms

Mason and I found a few this evening. We have enough for a family meal, but that is about it. My neighbors told me the other day they have found a total of 30 between three of them...and I thought I was having an off year! It does seem to be hit and miss around here. The guys that have reported good finds told me they were finding them in grassy ditches, those of us that are hunting woods don't seem to be doing as well. I've found an few in my yard, and my brother found over 100 in his under apple trees. Go figure.

Everything I have found has been in open areas too.

There are enough folks around here finding them in good numbers to let me know I have just been looking in the wrong areas. I really don't have a lot of time right now to spend looking for them, so the little I have been out I have mistakenly been hitting old faithful patches. Where we got 'em this evening was in one of those places, and it is one of the more open areas I have historically found mushrooms. Most of my lil patches are so over grown with various green things now it would be hard to spot mushrooms if they were two feet tall.

Here is one of the batches from last year....And I have yet to find one. I hope the split-season thing is true.

Made it out today to check a couple spots, got two that were ready. Then found a bunch of baby one's about an inch tall, I will give them a couple days. So it looks to be getting about time for me here.

Awesome John! Get the youngin out to help find them, then send them to Sunbury!

It was tough to get the kids in the box for ups, but with no air holes they quit fighting. They should be there Ina couple days...... Oh wait you wanted the shrooms?

I stumbled into a cap full of big yellows down low in a sycamore bottom this morning while out listening to turkeys. The ridges are dry as a popcorn fart.

We are getting some pretty good showers here now. Hopefully, its enough to add a little butter to the popcorn.

I'm still striking out here in Medina County. I've been looking all over... high and low... haven't found a single one yet.

Hopefully this rain today and the heat tomorrow will pop them up. I found a few yellows wednesday but they were dried up.

Has anybody found any dog peckers or "half frees" as the rural Appalachians call them? I haven't found a single one this year which is very unusual for the areas I hunt.
