I understand your thinking that the new tagging system makes it easier for a person on "the fence" to teeter towards the outlaw side because it's easier to check one in, however, if you flip the coin over, there's probably just as many people who used to say F'it on Sunday night, (or any night), when all the check stations were closed that will now check one in because they can. Personally, I think the upside far outweighs the down. I don't see the number of poachers increasing dramatically but I do see a dramatic increase in the accuracy of the data set of what is being killed.
the number don't seem too bad when your already at the bottom of the barrel. we should check the vegas numbers to see what odds they are giving on a 2012 herd estimate number of 750K...again....
FYI, Tonk told me yesterday that the state will no longer publicly issue a population estimate...there's just no way of knowing, (with the resources available), and with any kind of accuracy, how many deer are out there.

Rumor has it no herd population estimate will be made public going forward. Due to the complexity and therefore difficulty in herd estimation, the DOW is not able to accurately estimate the population. As a result, we won't be seeing a number for 2012...

This is ludacris in itself. Instead of not releasing a population estimate based on flawed collection methods, how about a solution. Here is a novel idea: find a more accurate model to estimate the herd, implement it, and THEN release the information. Can't tell me there is no way to do so. With the infrared technology and such today, I am sure there has to be a better way. I just don't know what it is. That is not my job.
I would like to know who is filling out the Farmer Attitude Surveys. Having asked my neighbor (likely the largest landowner in Highland County) and the guys I hunt on in Fayette County, no one has ever heard of it.
