Dad said he saw a buck doggin a doe and wouldn't budge to his calls this afternoon. We heard/saw chasing today too.

If you havnt shot a buck and are able to hunt. Get your butt out there!

Saw a small 8 cruising this AM. Broke for lunch back in the stand by 2. Haven't see jack squat yet. Squirrel rut is the most active I've seen. Lots of chasing, barking, and scurrying.

3 does at the corn for 30 minutes. Spike comes in and pushes them off the corn. Now they're in the food plot and he's spying them no mind. Only chasing he's done in 10 minutes is running them off the corn. Rut? What rut? Two older does TOO.

Just got back from IN where its normal to see 10-15 deer a day and usually several mid 20's throughout the week as well as several shooters. This week..... one day I say 18 deer, 11 bucks ALL 1.5 yr olds and 7 does. Day 2 NOTHING, Day 3 one doe, Day 4 two 1.5 yr olds and two does, so I left! Its like the deer are completely gone right now there, REALLY weird for where I hunt over there. So I leave and come home with higher expectations only to find out my number one farm that I've had to myself for 20 years now has two other people hunting it and jacking it all up, my other farm had two trespassers on it while I was gone, and the only buck worth a lick is in my own yard and hes only 2.5! WTF is going on this year.... thank God for duck hunting, bout to head back to MI til something starts showing up on camera.

Tonight I sat our creek bottom. It was still, so I could hear chasing if there was any and I heard nothing. For the last hour of light, 3 does fed lately unbothered. As I was packing up, a small 8 joined the spike at the corn. Neither of them every chased a doe or even acknowledged them until they for close to the corn. Even then they didn't go more than 20 yards. No grunting.

It was like watching a 5th grade dance.

Find the does Joe and you will find active bucks.

Naw. I know where they are. Nothing messing with them. Big boys seem to still be hunkered down as of yesterday. Nothing at night either. Just a scrub here and there cruising. No increase in roadkill either. Jd is seeing the same.

All NE ohio,

Buddy said two definite shooters were chasin this am on one of our places.

2 days ago another guy saw a giant locked down on another property.

I had to work today but on my way in, today in beechwood I saw a 140" locked to a doe 20 yards from an extremely busy intersection. As I turned the corner, I saw him on this little hill just passin time with heavy construction 80 yards away!

I got down early and left. May even go back to work. Did not see a deer all day and I hunt smack dab in the middle of the old urban zone. I'm bored

I ended up moving mid day. Saw a lone bb cruising at 1. Ended up seeing the same buck from the morning at 3, hundreds of yards away. I toyed with him and grunted him 5 yards from my tree, coming in grunting the whole time. I was on a hill too so he was almost eye level with me. He looked at me but never boogered. Then go figure he gets downwind and doesn't spook this time. I'm so confused about this smoke right now. My last hotel night is tomorrow but I'd really like to stay until Thursday, at least. I guess like you guys say though, no sense in spending the money for nothing. Looking like I won't even lay eyes on a 100 inch deer this year...

Hi guys. New to the forum. Been reading and following your posts and finally set up an account. There is some great information to read and I appreciate your wisdom and knowledge. I am from SW Ohio, just north of Cincinnati. I have put in a lot of tree stand time since September 28th on private property and public. I have been fortunate enough to put a couple does into the freezer but buck sightings have been few and far between. Finally I have been seeing a few young bucks the past week with their nose to the ground but this weekend I have seen a couple young bucks chasing does... crashing through the woods chasing them first thing in the morning. I saw this both Saturday morning, Sunday morning and a lone young buck this morning. But really no big boys, no mature bucks. Seems like a weird year. I know there are pretty much two schools of thought when it comes to the rut... either you follow the traditional thought that the first week or 10 days of November are magical and the best rut days to be in the woods or you follow the likes of Charles Alsheimer who tends to follow the moon phases and this cycle can change from year to year. This year he said the rut will occur late and if you were to take some days off from work the best days to be in the woods for the rut would be November 14-21 because the bucks will be on the move. If you read more of his comments, it appears the best days are 14th-17th since he believes the bulk of the breeding will be between the 17th-25th. Now I have been on a mission to kill a big buck for many years and have had absolutely no luck. :smiley_depressive: I have killed many does and younger bucks but big bucks seem to elude me. I have struggled with which rut theory to follow over the past few years and put a lot of time in the woods but this year I am actually becoming a solid believer in Alsheimer because here it is 11/11 and I have seen only two big bucks at a far distance only one day this whole season. I hope to be in the woods 11-14 and 11-15 to see of I finally see some big bucks on the move. If so, I have to then consider following Alsheimer's annual rut formula. If not, then I have to chalk this year up to warmer weather being a cause for low deer movement and/or maybe the seeking and chasing happening in the evening hours.

I was in the woods this morning and arrowed a mature doe at 30 yards. She has been teasing me the past couple weeks and today she lingered in front of me broadside for too darn long and I could not resist the temptation. Normally this time of year I let them walk in hopes of a buck following them but this year I am getting frustrated so I decided to take her for the freezer.

Thanks for all your posts. I will update what I see. Maybe a turkey will walk in front of me too. That would be a bonus!
