Ohio 2016 Rut Report. County? Conditions?

My opinion if you are patterning a buck you have a better chance to arrow him during the pre rut. Once the rut kicks into full swing you never know where he will end up. Of course you also never know what will show up either so that's what makes it exciting!

Just saying, I don't think I remember seeing this many huge bucks killed this early in the season.......EVER!!! The rut hasn't even started yet either in most places! rotflmao

If you are not able to hunt Oct. 25 through January, you will miss some rutting action. A guy hunting one farm will see nothing. I guy in a tree 1/2 mile up the road will see 40. The guy seeing nothing says there is no rut, the guy seeing 40 says it's the best ever. Its the same every year, some days you see it, some days you do not...but it happens EVERY year in the same time frame... Oct-January. If you only have a week to hunt, I hope you got lucky and picked the week your property has a couple of does that smell right.

Oh, and the beauty of hunting and hoping right now is that if you happen to have that first "hot" doe on your property, every buck within miles will be there too!

Gordo, if you stay away from the Skull, you might be able to get more done brother.

Haha. With the exception of 'Gordo gone wild' last weekend I've been laying low from that scene. Too many f'n variables

I dropped into on two diff properties today to make sure my pops will be all set for this weekend. They where both ripped to shit with sign. His favorite spot where he has done all his killing lately stunk like deer ass. Going to be a fun weekend! He's pumped.

Oh baby, like Brock said, I hope that first crooked tail breeder comes through on him. Every buck will be in tow. Feast or famine!

Rooting for you and your pops! I can feel the excitement, it's GREAT. You looked like a different person with that stick and string in your hands.

I'm hoping to catch some pre rut starting tomorrow night and going to next Saturday. On vacation all week, was really hoping to move it to next week or the following but boss said that was a no go since we are short staffed. Oh well.

Killed my buck this evening after he came hauling ass in and grunting up a storm. Grunted him in twice, let him go the first time because I wasn't sure if I wanted to kill him. As he was walking away I decided he needed to come home with me lol.

Watched what I would estimate as a 150" 10 point come by me at 5:20 in the heat yesterday evening. He wasn't nose down running a doe trail hard, but was very interested in it and only looked when I grunted and snort wheezed at him as he proceeded on his way.

I agree with this. The bucks that I have had on cam all season are not showing up as regularly now. However I have had a couple encounters at random times that do not follow what has been their pattern. Things seem to have dropped off but I'm sure it's just that they are not as predictable now. Just have to be in the tree as much as possible

Seen a good buck bust across the corn field last night right where 4 does went In was a steady wind coming from. That direction. I had 3 does in front of me he never looked at them so I'm guessing he knew something was going on over across the field. I'll be back in there this evening.
