Ohio Turkey Hunting Report

Well I'm all set up and ready to rumble. This might be my last early morning hunt but not sure.

How long after you kill your first bird do you have to kill your second? Do you just have to tag it in over phone and able or is there other stipulations? Thanks in advance!

Goodluck y'all!

Yeah, I think your right John. Thanks!

Well, I had a hen all fired up this morning and she and another hen were really gettin' after it less than 40 yards away. That lasted about 2 minutes and brought a tom gobbling in. He sounded to be about 100 yards away. The hens took there hell raising calling on down the creek and it sounded like his last gobble was headed their way. I was trying my best to emulate them but he must have had a visual on them. Hope he comes back.

I heard more gobbling this morning than I'd heard for 2 weeks. Had one roosted 75 yards from me and he pitched out the opposite way I had it planned. Hens were across the field I didn't know were there. Stayed and called for a while and had 5 come across the road and get within 60 yards of me and another hunter starts calling 80- 100 yards to my north. Sounded like a dieing hen and they turned and went the way they came and never saw them again.

I came across the first fawn of the year. I was 1 step away from stepping on it. It had just been born in the past few hours.

That is awesome JD! Good thing you didn't step on it and kill it or anything. You might kill that one in 6-7 years.

Heard nothing until after 7am this morning. Had one coming in at 7:30 but never saw him. I may get one last chance out tomorrow evening. That would be my first ever time getting after turkeys in the afternoon.

It has certainly been an adjustment this year with a second child!

Well I had a decent morning in the woods till I went to leave. Spent the last few hours looking for my truck keys once I got back to my truck. Fugg, 1.5 hours of sleep tends to make you think not so clearly. I had three metal detectors going and the farmer showed up and worked his field I walked thru this morning. What else could go wrong! Lol

After several trips and a couple hours searching the area around my truck and the 450 yards both ways with metal detectors running over weeds, grass, clover and turned over soil I thought I'd check my turkey vest one more time after a half a dozen previous searches. Found hem fuggars clear back in a corner crease of my decoy pouch. I'm pretty much done for the season.

In my tired and frustrated Forrest Gump voice....That's all I have to say about that.

Spending the rest of the weekend with my family resting and relaxing. Goodluck y'all and a big Congrats to all of you who killed one this year! :smiley_clap: Well done guys!

LMAO Ric! I know that drunken forgetful feeling after working nights and trying to stay up. You basically turn into a mindless zombie! Glad you didn't loose your keys though!

Those keys are the greatest trophy of the season! Glad you found them. Heck of a good effort this season, Ric. Sometimes it just doesn't come together.

A freaking zombie is right Greg! It was a real fun season for me, it really was. I learned so much in the last couple months from those of you offering tips and sharing your stories. I learned alot of stuff by just being in the field chasing them and observing them. I learnt that I definitely need to learn how to use a mouth call. Hearing so many different vocalizations and reactions to various calls over the past month will pay huge dividends in the future.

I took some pictures throughout my season and will share them after I get rested up. They won't be of Seans quality but some nice shots anyway. Thanks for all the help fellers! I'm hooked on another game now!

Brock........ You are/were so right my man, about the keys! Like killing a triple bearded hen with 2" spurs! Lmao

Thanks for all the support!

Had one at 40 yards tonight and just couldn't get a shot... We watched him fly in the tree so I'll be sittin about 40 yards away from it at 5...

Filled my last tag a little bit ago. Ended up being about 25 yards from the tree. Nothing like waiting till the last day...lol

Well done JD!

Ric- You deserve some points for your team. Turkey or not, I don't care. You deserve some sort of an award. You impressed the heck out of me with your dedication and commitment. glad you found your keys as well! I "lost" mine one time. I was hunting in the tree house and killed a deer. Walked up to the front of the property to grab a helper to drag the deer out. Went to get in the Jeep and had no keys. Frustrating. My wife wasn't happy about coming to give me her keys either. Went back to drag the deer out. Figured I better make sure the tree house was locked up. Dangit! I don't have my keys to lock it up! Or do I . . .daggone keys were hanging out of the deadbolt lock!! "Here's your sign!"
