Ohio Turkey Hunting Report

None from me. Jackass neighbor threw a wrench in my hunt. I may as well hunt public rather than Morrow. I wish our place in Coshocton wasn't so far away.

This has been one of the best years I have seen at our property. I have been absolutely covered up in toms for a week now, one morning there was 8 toms after one hen. Only thing has been was they weren't doing what I wanted them too...lol... I've been getting in between 5-5:15 just about every morning and sit till 7-7:30 before I gotta get to work. What I always thought they would do they'd do the exact opposite. This morning get in there and there wasn't a single one where they had been roosting so I went up to the top and look over the field and there is 3 already in full strut. I get positioned to start calling and they literally ran right to me. Got the one I had been after... 23lbs, 11 inch beard and 1.25 spurs. Now after the next one on my list....

Damn JD that's a hoss.

Beener - know your pain bro, it seems like that is more frustrating during turkey season than deer gun - I don't think I've ever had a turkey pushed to me because of poor calling or dumbass maneuvers..

I was going to try and roost those same birds tonight, but got wrapped up in mowing. Got some nasty storms on the way tonight, will that encourage them to gobble in the AM if it passes by daylight, or will these storms kill tomorrow? I can go any of the next 3 days, but not all 3, so I need to play it smart.

I had three toms all within 100 yards of me in different directions and he crosses two properties he is not allowed on blaring this peacock call and ran them off. Walking the outer edge of a field at 7am.

I scared the fugg out of him by dumping three 3 1/2" turkey loads in his vacinity...not at him mind you. Lol

Why waste your high dollar shells on a fellow like him?? That is the very reason I have three cheap 2 3/4 inch loads in my turkey vest at all times. I have a zero tolerance policy on people who purposely ruin my set up just because a bird is gobbling.

This may be way wrong, but its seems like after a huge storm like the one tonight theyll be more talkative in the morning. It seems like they could track of where their hens were at, giving someone a better chance to kill one off the roost.

I've always seen them go tight lipped they day after thunder and lightning at night.. One sure bet is if the sun comes out in the AM hit the fields or pipelines, really anywhere sunny.. Don't be surprised if they're not fired up crazy in the AM.. They probably aren't getting much sleep or rest tonight trying to balance on a limb. lol

Hot diggity dog! Wife got sent home early since the hospital was overstaffed. I'll be darned. Every other night of the week when she is scheduled off work they call her begging her to come in. I think I am going to bed. Set the alarm for 430am and go out in the rain in the morning. If nothing else, maybe it will cool me off a bit after the last couple evenings of frustration. Supposed to be tapering off around 7am or 8. Sounds like it is raining buckets right now though.

I located 4 gobblers yesterday in a field during mid afternoon and got up this morning with high hopes. The weather was perfect except for some dense fog for a couple hours. For the 6th hunt in a row I never saw or heard a fucking turkey..........are you kidding me?

Look at the bright side, Chad. You find 'em in the afternoon next week, you can just go kill 'em!

Hearing them has been my issue also. Silent birds. I will see them but no gobbling at all. The week of April 10th they were lighting it up. I turkey hunt for the interaction not just to kill them...Hopefully it picks up again soon.

Completely understand that statement! I don't have much interest in shooting a turkey. I like to hear them, and I like to hear them on the way in. Knowing you are about to shoot a turkey is the thrill for me. Pull the trigger, and say "dang", wish I still had that tag. :)
