Oh, and transplanting seldom works because their root systems aren’t very strong and don’t like stress so I’d prolly have to go buy one at nursery.
Generally 5-8 years depending on what it has to deal with. Seems like pawpaws at trunk if you wrap your hand around the trunk and fingers touch its too young. Have found wild pawpaws that produced fruit at half inch diameter.
If you graft the trees, it cuts the time down by almost half.
Also depends on if its an actual seedling or a runner. The runners dont have a root at all, just the remains of the runner after digging it up. I havent tried this but ive had people recommend cutting the runners then come back next fall to dig it up to encourage better rooting.

Haven't ever found enough ripe ones to have any favorite way to eat. Was thinking about putting a onion bag over them to protect them but I bet the coons would still get at them.
Bump the tree, what falls is close enough. Put it in a paper bag, it'll soften up and be just as good.
Best way is fresh off the tree...cut in half and scoop out the pulp. If you want to save pulp for cooking/baking a salad spinner works well for separating pulp from seeds.

It's awesome. Basically bake it with the water bath method in the smoker. Put a pawpaw glaze over top and mmmmmmSmoked cheesecake?!

Buddy and his brother has a half dozen trees . Favorite treat of the year from them besides the honey. I enjoy them alot , a good sweet banana taste with a kick of tart depending on ripeness. I made them Into milkshakes last year and they were fantastic
Ready in highland county. Had one yesterday. Earliest I can ever remember.
