Pellet Grills

Just read through this thread from the beginning....Jesse also got the Traeger. He’s posted a lot of good looking food porn from it also. I’ll have to check into the differences and the pros/cons each brand has (Pit Boss vs Traeger). Also, @Big_Holla started this thread in 2017....you were leaning toward getting a gas/charcoal grill, did you ever end up getting a smoker?

Nope. Just a temporary Char Broil charcoal still LOL! It is on my list, just so many things pop up and put it on the back burner.

Ok, popping my pellet stove cherry tomorrow. Going too try a venison roast. What temps are y’all doing yours at? Final temp should be low to mid 130’s when finished, but at what temps are you guys cooking it at?

Bought a griddle for my 2-burner propane stove and it fits this perfectly. Happy happy.

So a neighbor of mine told me that he bought a unit at Sam's Club and it's built heavier than the name brands and works just as well.
Anybody have any input about that? I don't mind spending money for a name brand to get quality, but I don't mind saving money either.

Heavier doesn’t always mean better. I would think it would be harder to dial in a temperature with thicker metal.

Not sure on pellets. Never put any thought into it honestly.

When my BIL gave me the Traeger he said the igniter/hot rod was bad so he provided a new one. I replaced the igniter but no luck. Pulled the digital controller and there's a nice burn around a couple of the board circuits. New controller/board ordered ($70). I'm anxious to try this out Saturday so if the board doesn't arrive I'll fire it manually.
Have you talked too their customer service yet? They’re pretty good, had some conversations with them when I first got mine.

I talked with them yesterday evening, very helpful. I couldn't fine the controller that is listed (unit is 5 years old) in the manual. The tech got me the newest part number and price and told me to search around, may get it cheaper than directly from Traeger, which I did for about $12 cheaper not including what Traeger was going to charge for shipping.

There’s a grommet that the temp probe goes through. After we got done cooking I pulled the probe out the wrong way and tore the grommet. Totally my fault. Told the guy and he sent me 2 grommets for free. They paid the shipping. Apparently I wasn’t the first too do this 😂
