From my stand earlier today... sun going down which is why I love being in the wood. Just forget about all the bullshit that has been weighing down on your shoulders, just be free, and relax. Start fresh the next day.

Early on in life I began working trades. Decided I wanted more and joined the military. Got away from that and went back to trades. VA said I couldn’t work trades anymore so I took over a retail trades business. Sold that and retired for a few years. Decided again that I wanted more and went back to work in a grain facility making pennies. Still not happy but knowing that I could work again, I joined a trade again. Why do I share this journey of work history? To tell you that life is up to you, it’s your life make it what you want. VA says I’m 100% disabled and I’ve never used that as a crutch. Fuckem, I can still work and I do. For anyone feeling down this Christmas season, only you can make a change. Follow your dreams, work hard and good will come. Make your own happiness and the rest will fall into place. No one is going to hand you it. A new year is coming, make it the best one yet.

Good on you, too many folks out there complain day in and day out about work, spouses, and everything in between. Very few of them do anything about it. The next best thing rarely just falls out of the sky and into your lap. Gotta get off the couch and go get it yourself.

Never “settle”.

Everything takes work.

Never look at someone else as the problem before looking at yourself.

An hour shooting on the back deck with kids was enough for me to change my shitty attitude this morning towards Christmas. I asked them and we changed it. None of them are fighting now. They’re actually playing basketball out front now. So we aren’t bitching about this beautiful weather on Christmas with no snow. We are making the best of it.

My time in the woods this year was different. I entered the season missing something. My mentor, my dude, my old man, my dad. I was still able to tell him stories but he wasn’t by my side. It was a change, something I wasn’t used to. It made me look back at myself and realize what one of the most important things about hunting to me. That’s friends and the people you share those stories with. Sure I hunt for me, but the stories and the times end with me if I don’t share them.

Keep sharing your story folks! Some of us need to hear it. Thanks for being a part of mine.

A good fall day in Alaska. Hard to compete with the colors for about 3 days. A big storm rolled in after I shot that moose. Thunder, lightening, hail. I went to the truck and grabbed multiple tarps. Hooked up both quads to the moose and drug him 2 miles and up the trailer ramp. Sketchy as sketchy gets! No smiles, all work.

Shot was inside 5 yards and I thought I was gonna have to kill the cow that was with him. She was PISSED!

Went to Home Depot for some crap. Took pearl and walked her on leash in the store. Hit the garden section and picked up a cart and told Pearl to load up. Everyone loved her but she gives everyone the stink eye. If your timid with your hand she will growl at you.
