Stopped in tonight again. Pretty much every night. His stories were real interesting tonight. He was in the middle of an investigation. I wasn't allowed to touch anything. Someone had his airplane and was holding it ransom because they made an emergency landing on the dude's property. Funny part about his story? Dad has never flown. Afraid to fly. Yep. The confusion is real. Real sad.

Sounds like he's having a good time! I personally like the story and kinda wish I was doing the things I never got to do. Living the dream, so to speak.

Dave does have the optimistic side of this and in many many ways I can see that as well. It will eat you up if you dwell on the negative, hard to accept though for sure. Give him the love he needs and take a very deep breath. Prayers to you all.

Wonder if it's the meds he's on causing his brain function to do this?!? Our dad during his pre-surgery and post op was on something that had him seeing things not happening and paranoid.

Thoughts and prayers continue your way Phil.

I wish Ric. Doctors say it is the cancer in his brain.

Met with Hospice today. The lady was outstanding and you could tell she truly cared about what she does. I won't tell you I feel any better about it. I don't.

We signed up to begin hospice. He started on morphine yesterday. Maybe the night before. Been a bit of a blur. My siblings are in town. Tomorrow we will celebrate Dad's 70th birthday in the nursing home. Hopefully he will know what is going on. At least for part of it.

Hang in there Phil, make sure your dad is comfortable. Those hospice nurses are a special breed, very kind and passionate people. Keeping you guys in my thoughts, brother.

Hospice have been outstanding on every situation I've been involved with....

Sucks too hear this Phil, and I know it's probably not what you wanna hear but making him comfortable and pain free is the thing too work on from this point forward.... Sucks too get too this point but the reality is it's all about him now... Whatever makes him pain free and comfortable is the goal now...

If that's a drug induced coma? So be it... Went thru it with multiple family members and not doing it is more painful then you can imagine..

I've always heard great things about the hospice nurses. Now I'm seeing it first hand.

Thanks Chad and Aaron.

Thanks J. I only disagree with none portion of what you posted. It is not just about dad. It is about mom too. They made it known to her they are there for her and the family as well. They told her to call anytime. If she has a question at 2am. . .call them. That means a lot too. Not posting to disrespect you in any way. I was educated today. Maybe this info will offer comfort to someone else going thru this situation right now.

Sorry man...I feel for you and hate the day I gotta go through this. One of those things you just can't prepare for. Out of your control.

Happy birthday Mr. Hick's!

My sister in law is a hospice nurse. She's just one of those people that always has a smile on her face, just a very caring person. Anyway, give your mom a hug for me.

Dad knows the Lord. Our family knows the Lord. Thus far, our only comfort has been in knowing he is going to a better place whenever he goes. You are correct though. No good way to prepare for it. I am learning a lot about myself, the strength my mother has, and the support our extended family and family friends offer. We truly are a blessed family. It has been amazing to see how many former students are reaching out, friends over the years, etc. Dad has touched a lot of lives.

Happy birther to the elder Mr. Hicks. He did well in raising his family right and his imprint on this life is embodied by your character Phil, and the way you've passed that on to your kin. Thinking of you and yours this weekend brother. I hope today is a good day!

Thoughts and prayers to your whole family Phil. I can attest to the caring side of hospice nurses. My wife is an RN and supervisor of Nurses Aides for Putnam County Hospice. She does a lot of initial assessments to patients and quite often is on call on weekends. To hear that phone ring at 3 a.m. and hear her go into caring mode immediately makes me appreciate her job more. And every nurse that she works with builds relationships with the patients and families. I'm glad you guys are getting the care needed for such a great man.
