Not getting into 'who' or 'where' got it worse. Just what is...

Manufacturers of needed grid parts better be working 24 hours! I know we are already having problems getting sleeves.
I got a buddy that works for Duke Power and they had 2 substations at generating stations destroyed. He said Duke has put a stop to all construction and updates across the company, instead shifting personnel, equipment, and personnel to the areas with storm damage. He said the issue is lead time for some of the destroyed items.

Correct. That is why I'm saying this problem is way bigger than Florida. This will be a nation wide shortage on material.

I think you missed the point though. He was saying there is another cat 4 expected to hit FL next week in roughly the same area but further south. Some moddels have it hitting the cedar key area that was just completely wiped by Helene. This one is traveling W to E and will travel across FL and back into the Atlantic. Back to back hits by cat 3-4 storms is devastating.

My short answers aren't working. I'll try and remember later about my concern in detail. I don't know where they are going to get material from to rebuild Florida without shutting down the rest of the country.

That's a huge concern and adds to the anxiety. I am sure yards are getting empty of poles, transformers, spools, etc. It's a mess.

The other problem when the destruction is so widespread is mutual aid is taxed. In most hurricane situations the damage is traditionally confined to coastal areas and lots of companies can send help. The problem now is those companies are busy fixing their own stuff and don't have time or materials to help other companies that much. Case in point you guys are working for Duke, when you got the Duke customers back online in FL they sent you north where other Duke customers were out, but tri-county coop still had 90% of their customers out In that area. In most storms they would have stayed and helped get those back online providing they reached an agreement. Everything and everyone is taxed the last thing g anyone needs right now is another large storm.

I wanted to followup and say I'm not trying to argue or anything with you brother. Just talking. I dont want you to perceive that I am. I know you have a fuckload of shit going on and a unique picture of the situation. You've got enough shit to think about without a discussion about preparedness, plenty of time for that later.

I'm good, not trying to argue either. Just stating the other side of this. I don't think anyone expected this much damage. So how is anyone supposed to have this much material on hand.

Short answer is they really can't. Well they could, but that's a lot of inventory sitting in yards having to be taken care of and paid for. It's not economical. Like our companies here usually have a large inventory for this reason, but why would companies in states like TN, NC etc keep all that around. They really had no reason to. And God help them if it's large transmission or substation parts.

I know of at least one substation that got washed away.

Seems we have my concern aired out now. The material that has already been used up has to be a crazy number. (My days are blended together but I'm gonna guess) 2 days ago it was 1,000 utility poles already replaced on duke NC property. I could only imagine an unfathomable amount of miles or wire put back up. This takes resources. The widespread damage of this first hurricane is HUGE! We are already running into problems getting the correct material on hand. I'm hearing that many companies have put a stop to any new jobs. That material is being redirected for disaster relief. Now we have another massive storm brewing. This will have a devastating effect across the country as it eats up more material. This is not going to be a Florida problem. Americans are being Americans right now and it is AWESOME! I suspect that will only grow if this storm is anything like the last one. It has to. This is an American problem that will be solved by Americans. Florida is not alone on this issue and it will be taken care of. Just let Americans do what Americans do or GTF out of the way. This is not a Florida problem.
