And then there was four.
My guide said the mosquitoes are pretty bad but not horrible. He said to remember its Maine not Canada. With all the camo and headcover and all I should have every inch of myself covered. I'm sure it won't take long TOO find out. As far as a thermacell goes, he said he don't allow them in camp. He just doesn't like them and asks all his hunters to not even bring them. I don't know.

I don't know fellas, that's what he told me and was in the "things to bring and not to bring" list. I figured when I posted that that it would whack the hornets nest.

Three is a small number not as small as two but smaller than four.
Got an email from my guide last night.

Looking good here-The heat this week was miserable to be humping bait up and down mountain sides, but it's going to clear up.
Well, back to it, bears are hungry!
I'll see you on Sunday!
Ron
It's supposed to cool down a little there next week so that's good. The best part is the bears are hungry.
On the deer hunting side of it. I got my lockbox and two new 4 gb sd cards so I can put another TC out tomorrow. I got what appears to be a really good spot picked out for it and it looks like the deer are traveling that area a lot. I am gonna pull the card on my one camera I put out last Sunday, drop 50# of apples in front of that camera, and put this second camera out. Hopefully I will have some nice pics to share come tomorrow evening.

As time draws near, a freindly reminder. DON'T BE LIKE THESE GUYS,

Billie Joe and Jim Bob had been buddies since they met in the first grade. Over the years they hunteded the hills and hollers in search of many critters. And through the years they always got together and watched movies on JB's TV. BJ never owned a TV. The years passed and both were growing old and pondered how many more years they would be on earth.

Low and behold one day in 2005 a truck rolls up the 'ol two track to JB's place and is running wires from pole to pole. JB inquires about the wires and the fella states were running the lines for cable TV. He tells JB that soon he will have hundreds of channels to choose from. JB is ecstatic and phones BJ with the news. A week later they are watching hunting and fishing shows on cable TV at JB's. BJ says lets watch a movie instead. As faith would have it, they watch The Bucket List. This gets the 'ol wheels turnin.

JB says to BJ, whats on top of your bucket list. And don't tell me Suzie Q at the feed mill! BJ ponders and states, I'd like to go bear hunting somewhere, just you and I. JB thinks this is a great idea. The quickly switch back to the Outdoor Channel and see an ad for a guided hunt with Injun Joe in northern Canada. The decision is made.

A few months later they are loading both Winchester 94's and all the gear in BJ's International Scout. They drove all that day and most of the next night taking turns driving and navigating with the trusty Rand McNally atlas. After hours and hours they have lost their way. They stop at a filling station for directions. The fella tells them they are quite close to Injun Joes, just follow Injun Joes signs, each will have the info you need. They come to the first sign. It has a bust of Injun Joe and says go dead ahead. They do it and a few miles down the road come up another sign. This one has Injun Joe standing atop a huge black bear smilling ear to ear with his right arm extended and pointing right. JB wheels the old Scout to the right on a very narrow dirt road. About half mile later the third sign appears at a fork in the road. JB sees the sign and locks up the wheels on the Scout. BJ looks at JB as both jaws drop. The sign says ATTENTION..BEAR LEFT. BJ shrugs his shoulders, shoves the floor shifter into reverse and heads back home. JB just looks at him and smiles. Hey it was an adventure, but next time I say we look up Suzie Q.

You have no idea Ric!:)

Got back out to the creek crossing tonight and pulled the card of the camera. I only had 17 pics in 5 days buy I thought to myself that's not bad for just sticking a camera in a creek crossing. I switched cards out and dumped 50# of apples and headed for the other end of the woods. The card produced nothing but a couple does and a house cat! I found what looks like a good spot where the deer are coming out into the field and hung another camera. I won't get back out there to check them until at least Labor Day. I'm going to pick up some apples tomorrow and that way when I get back I will have some apples already gathered and ready to go. The trustee of the farm was mowing the field tonight when I got there but when it came up a thunderstorm that put an end to the mowing. It was pretty awesome setting the storm out, there is a blown over tree top that made a great lean to to take cover under and watch it move across the country side. So I guess I am as set with my cameras as I can be, new batteries, new 4gb sd cards, and 50# of apples filling the creek bottom with their sweet aroma. Time will tell. I took a couple pics of the partially mown alfalfa/clover field that sets atop the property I am hunting this year.

Once the storm moved through I thought it made for a couple great pics of the field.
