Well I snuck out tonight a little too late and jumped two whatevers out from under my stand out back. Got quieter and sneekier and crept into my stand to discover all my apples from day before yesterday are GONE. Little bastards ate them in the rain all day and busted me AGAIN...Im gonna get dat turdy little doe I SWEAR! thought about turning right back and makin dinner in the warm toasty house but I thought better about it and said to my self there are others out here. So I sat and saw nothing. I Think Im hearing a feeder go off somewhere nearby again around 6. I had the neighbors husky come out and head off in the direction the others ran...damn dogs. Then finally I caught movement right in front to my left. Sure enough it was what I thought was a medium sized doe but alone. After watching this for awhile I'm thinkin its a large button. Rubbed its head on a tree and was all alone. This thing was well within crossbow range and the motionless sit made me tremble with the cold...What? I was fine before but the chances of him looking for the apples was high and he made me hook on my release twice. He thought better after sniffing the husky and turned back but acted like he was gonna come out where I had some bust me before climbing into my stand. Aggravating shaking knees for this small but shootable guy. Finally as it was getting dark he moved far enough away and I could see far enough around to know nothing was going to be in range while it was light enough, I slipped quietly down and out the other side...back to the house to cook a nice warm supper, some pumpkin pie and a ton of cool whip. Nights like this are better than seeing nothin right?

Just catching up on some of your hunts Saddlepants. Sounds like my 2009 season. Hang in there and you will connect. Keep practicing with the bow on your off days. Play the wind. (Buy a scent smoker.) Break up your school work with heading out for 15min to shoot. Sometimes I shoot my bow simply as a way to clear my head, then head back into the office. Amazing what 15min of loosing arrows can do for you!

I have to admit something here, your previous history with your husband is not what I expected. You kinda threw me for a loop with that one.

Hahah. Its a very interesting story I'll admit and its good we don't share common interest in our hobbies...we don't fight...at all. I do my thing, he does his, we encourage each other and participate when we feel like it and want to spend more time together. His job allows him to be home allot and I dont work away from home anymore either. Just Me mom and him together nearly 24/7. I dont need a smoker, I go out and build a fire in the pit, takes about two minutes and toss some leaves or dry grasses on it. Lots o smoke in about the same amount of time to set up the smoker, lol. I do really miss my "real woods" hunting spot though.

So I went out to cut a tree near my stand and the chainsaw is seized up. WTH? it was fine when we finished off a tree near the house. Had to do it by hand but it also freed up the widow-er-maker that was hanging over my head in the stand. Dumped some apples and got to finally try out the 4WD in my truck...fixed a fence post and then when I got in I realized SHIT!! Its too late to go out tonight. Gosh dern it. Oh well. I guess that makes it miller time instead. Good luck out there tonight guys. At least I got the trash hauled out to the road (my drive is a 1/4 mile long, lol) and a section of math homework done. Sigh...got allot accomplished except the groceries.

Hubby is making me work but I aim to get out by 3 to the quarry. Still debating on weather or not to move away from my blind and apples toward the big trail where I saw that big buck crossing the river. Its too damn tempting to get my crossbow back out, I wont do it, I wont do it, I wont do it. First line of business though is getting the barn ready for the neighbor and her bobcat to clean it out...ugh...mud...work....he keeps catchin me leaning on my rake and staring off into the woods ,LOL!~!

Maybe just Maybe he will give in and say " Go, get out of here and get in that stand "

We can hope right lol. Good luck to you when you get set free to hunt.

Im free!! All showered and gettin ready to go out and smoke up. Had my stuff in the truck for a few hours <LOL, the friggin bobcat operator stood us up after having worked our asses off all morning and now my horses are stuck with no barn. Damn I hate un reliable people!! Even when your paying for work you cannot count on anyone it seems these days. Any how. Im going to the blind but Im gonna carry my porta seat and risk two days out there. Tomorrow I will head down to where I saw that bigger buck but tonight Im gonna stay in the blind by the apples and try a little scent. Hell Ive shot at two bucks in the exact same spot...given it a break and third times a charm right???

At least tonight had some action. Had a buck working a scrape line about 4pm and then after the quarry shut down I had a spike and his little sister come out of the corn in front of my blind. Was gonna video him but I heard more noise in the corn. So instead I got my bow up and hooked on while he was lookin out over the quarry. Too bad for me his little sister was looking right at my blind when I spied her and I think she caught some movement. She was just too unsure and finally coaxed him into following her all stiff legged back into the corn. Thats it for the night but at least Im seein deer back there now every visit and after shootin that buck they are still after my apples and plenty of tracks.

So Im going back out there tonight and I was reminded by a teammate I have antlers to rattle...lol...should I stay in the blind and do that or try to move closer, earlier and risk sitting a ton longer and having to be more out in the open on the ground and spooking him off. It will be a no worky day at the quarry so nice and quiet

If rattling sit in the blind, he will come to you. He will be looking for the source and you could get busted moving.

My thoughts exactly. If I can see him, he can hear me when Old freds not working. Still as the rut draws on Im SOOoo major tempted to get my crossbow out, put on the Ghillie and go sit against a tree closer to the action. Hate switching cause I want to get one with my new bow but I'm more confident on a longer shot with the CB and less movement is easier with it. Am I wrong for choosing to go this route...different situations require different weapons right. Its so open back there I really think Id have a hard time pulling off a shot with my bow, having to stand up and draw but then I see ppl do it all the time. I guess im just underconfident with this bow yet. Gonna go outside now and hit the target a few times. The new arrows and heads arent flying the same.
