Sgt Fury’s 2021 NJ and Ohio seasons

I’ve been giving it some thought and I think I’m going to sit over bait in the mornings during gun season, then cross the property boundary and hunt between my neighbors bait and the bedding area…probably the last few hours of the day. He’s mostly nocturnal so I’m thinking my best bet is to catch him coming from his bed at last light…and with a gun in my hands, even if I’m off in my guess by 100 yards, it’ll still be game over for him!

The walk in I was expecting to get wet feet from the rain and tall grass…surprisingly there was some frost so I didn’t get to wet. Coyotes were yapping about an hour ago. Doves landing on pile and turkeys are roosted all around me. Don’t know why they didn’t spook when I got into the blind in the dark.

Biggest I saw during my 2 week hunt. Left Ohio at 2:00am and got home by 10:00am…not to shabby. I’ll be headed out again for gun season.

Baited my Jersey gun stand today…there is more deer sign around here than there ever was since I first bought it. The 8 hunters on the other side of the creek used to shoot every deer that they could…they lost their lease last year! A guy is farming the fields and I’m not sure if anyone is hunting it but I’ve never seen a vehicle there since the other guys left.

When I pulled into my driveway today, a doe dashed from my front yard toward the woods to the left then she stopped. A little bit further I saw this buck watching me…and her. She refused to budge and he just watched as I took the trash from my truck and deposited it into the trash can that was about 20 yards from him. I called my wife and she came outside to see him. He stayed around 20 minutes then slowly made his way back into the woods.

Patience wearing thin. No pics of the big one in two weeks. These are the only visitors to the pile all week. Only deer I could’ve shot was a spike that stopped 30 short of the pile. I’ve tried walking around and sitting in different spots but both my pile and my neighbors show berry little deer activity, even during the overnight hours. If I go deerless again today, I may head back to Jersey Friday which will give me the weekend to unpack and get my stands ready there. Looks like tag soup…first since 2012 or 14.

Just so you know George, I’m not getting pics down here either. I don’t know what’s up. Got 12 pics over night and only one spike and several pics were of same deer
