Shot distance, would you?

Friday I had a chance at a deer of a lifetime. Closest he got was 90 yards. Bow shoots 505 ft per second. It is sighted in for 100 with reticle. I know this will likely turn sideways, but let's talk about this. Would you have taken that shot off a shooting stick in a wide open field?

What is your setup and comfort range?

If the wind was nonexistent and the right shot was there i think if you're confidant to that distance then yes you can.

Ethically, to me, no. So many variables on so many different levels. If you were actively target shooting 70,80+ yards maybe. But you have to take it to consideration, deer positioning as well as wind and everything else in a distance like that. But hey, if Josh bowmar can kill deer and big game over 80 with a compound, I have faith Giles could do so with a crossbow of that caliber! Next time just let it eat and have someone start an iks thread lol

I personally wouldn’t. Like mentioned above too many negative variables to make things go south. I’d rather try calling him closer within 50 at least or hope he just came inside that distance on his own accord.

I don't like shooting that far with a gun lol, def would not try it with a crossbow. Considering my effective range with trad bows, 100yds might as well be a mile.

I have a 10 point Vengent...its not quite as fast as yours. Farthest I would shoot it would be 60 yards. That's just me though. Given my track record bow hunting you should probably ignore me.

100% no, every time. I don't even shoot that far with my 870. 30 yards is a hard limit with my bow. Not worth the chance of wounding.

If absolutely perfect conditions and I'm fully confident in the bow's performance at the range, yes. With any one variable out of line, nope. I liken it to a 50 yard compound shot. I've made one in my career and it worked, but it wasn't a perfect kill. Probably won't do it again.

The deer we chase deserve more than that, and with a buck like that out there, it’ll add a little bit more excitement to your season. It only takes one minute to get the deer of a lifetime, it also only takes one minute to lose one and you’ll be playing that moment over and over in your head for the rest of your days. Hope is better than regret.

Not for me. I know a guy that killed a buck at 96 yards back in the 70's with a Jennings compound. It wasn't skillful, just luck that the arrow hit the right spot. I still like my shots at 20 yards or less. 25 yards would be stretching it for me.

Whitetails and mule deer are not the same animal. Whitetail have a tendency to drop more so than anything else on this continent.
