That they are. And after the season is over and after the shoulder surgery next month. I am going to test everything this bow says it can do. To include the 100 yd shots. I have a card now and thought about a return trip to the haul rd for caribou to see what we can do

Interesting hypothetical so using what is prolly a high avg of bolt speed across 90 yards, 450fps which is generous based on the Ballistics chart below... using a 430fps crossgun.
Travel time for 505 fps across 90 yards .6 seconds.
Speed of sound, .24 secs 90 yards.
So crossgun slap to hit where the deer stands. .36 seconds. From the sound slap to impact.
.6 secs full flight time.
Thats an awfully long time for a critter not to move.
I think the issue, that has been beat to death here across many threads is, folks holding a 'gun', stock, trigger, scope sling, etc in the crucial moment forget or ignore they're shooting a semi fast arrow.

1.) Is the equpment (you included) up to the task? Have you practiced and felt comfortable at that range? (No difference than max range with a straight wall or other rifle cartridge)
2.) Ethics behind taking that shot at a "buck" vs the same shot at a doe....would you or wouldn't you? Why one and not the other?
3.) Situation set up....is it a clear shot or just throwing lead/steel/bolt and praying? Do you have a good rest and is there wind, how much movement is the animal doing?
4.) What happens if it doesn't come together?

There are plenty of examples of that type of shot with modern high power rifles and smokeless muzzleloaders at game (whitetails included since they are more "twitchy") at that range or further on the interwebs.

Id have to run the numbers later, in CO working on getting my daughter into her first home.
My bet, as a guesstimate, with a ~300 fps compound bow more like 40-50 yards... Dr Woods did a video on it, I'll try and find it..

With a recuve, or longbow I'll not embarrass myself as I have no knowledge/not shot at game with them on their fps... there're folks on here obviously that have that experience for comparison.
But an arrow is an arrow once it leaves the device so really it's how fast does the velocity bleed off once launched x distance. @Hedgelj Put it up very succinctly, ethically. I'm just following the math from curiosity.

I’m sure there are people here that are capable of that kind of shot. But what if you took that shot, and the deer took one step forward as you pulled the trigger? Gut shot and sentenced to a long, painful death. Not worth it. Get closer.

For me it's the drop in angle/smaller target. No doubt the KE is there, but dropping her in the honey hole from 50-70* downward angle....not on a lifetime deer. A freezer doe....perfect DOE opportunity
