Idk 265 is crazy light for hunting and unethical for hunting especially with a mechanical broadhead. I did the math and if I'm right, which I know I am, that leaves you with a 5.9 gpi arrow which they only make in 600 spine arrows. Also I would double check your fps or would contact Bowtech and tell them you surpassed there fps rating with the bow set at 30 inch 50lbs. Congrats on the doe but I'm calling BS on the fps and arrow weight.

For religious reasons?

I was trying to find where this thread made a turn to male genitalia, just had to go there lmao lmao

Also I don't understand the pissing match people get in with how fast their bow is. I have no idea how fast my bow is, all I know is it's been tuned by the greatest, Milo, and will punch bullet holes thru paper. I'll take a tuned bow and a well placed shot over speed any day. Fred bear is probably rolling in his grave with the bow speed arguments nowadays.

I think the speed thing really has mellowed out over the years, but that is probably due to the fact that nearly every bow on the market is fast now. 15 years ago when Bowtech was pretty much the only one breaking that barrier, that's all anyone talked about. The 300 fps mark was the big thing, but I think it's lost it's luster over the years. What matters to me, and to effectiveness of the kill, is kinetic energy. Here's a good example, and not picking on AfterShock, just using his numbers since they are fresh in our minds.

He's shooting a 265 grain arrow at 300 fps, that's 52.97 ft.lbs of KE, which on the lower end of the recommended range of KE for big game animals.

Now, let's say he bumps up to a 365 grain arrow, still light by hunting standards, but acceptable. It should knock him down to roughly 270 fps assuming you loose +/-3 fps per 10 grains. Now he's getting 59.1 ft. lbs. of KE, which is inching towards to upper end of the KE range. This is just my opinion, but I'll take the bigger KE number of the bigger FPS number any day when it comes to driving a sharp, pointy stick through an animal because the KE is what matters, not speed.

This is a great read on Speed and Kinetic Energy: Carbon Arrow State University: Speed & Kinetic Energy

I'm going to upgrade my set up and last night I was doing a little shopping/math. I'm getting about 75 ft. lbs. of KE from the Switchback right now. The next setup will be in the 82 ft. lbs. range. I'll be shooting a faster bow, but shooting the same FPS with a much heavier arrow. With a solid fixed blade, I won't have to worry about what I hit, it'll break and the arrow will find it's mark. Can't wait to put it all together!

Very well put jesse, gotta find that balance between speed and weight to get the optimum kinetic energy. Fast and light is equivalent to too heavy and not enough speed.

Well put Jesse. I dropped back to a 60lb bow last year. KE and a quiet bow is more important to me than rocket speeds with a sonic boom when it launches my arrow.

This is the same discussion that prevailed 30 years ago when the fastest bow made might reach 230 fps. Im sure cavemen had this chat too.

I have no regrets going to a big heavy arrow and BH combo. Sure I have a little less room for error when it comes to yardage estimation, but I think it's outweighed by the room for error I gain with increased KE. There are very few shot angles that I wouldn't take advantage of now. Plus, my bow is now nearly as quiet as it gets.

When I started most of the guys were all about speed, overdraws and short light arrows....

Me? I wanted heavy slower knock em on their ass arrows.... Always did.... Liked my quiet bow back then lol....
