I'd say this is the latest I've ever started my boiler. Probably could have gotten away with waiting until the end of next week as I look at temps coming up for most of next week. Daughter and son in law are coming home Saturday. They're already whispering mentions of potential snow on Thanksgiving. I may not be real available. Boohoo. Getting the boiler started is now off the list of things to do. It's easy enough to stuff it full of wood once a day once it's started.

I hope nobody needs to buy any double wall pipe in the near future. My chimney was pretty shot. $245 for 3' of stainless double wall and a rain cap. I feel violated.

My uncle had 3 monster trees cut up. Well. . .AEP did. This is some of the tree tops. Another guy has been picking at it. This is just stuff he had cut and stacked. There are three trunks approximately 20-25' tall. The base of one of them measured 57" across. Need to get as much out as possible before the ground thaws. I've got a day or two maybe.

My day today.

If I had a half way reasonable way to get this beauty out of the woods in 8' or 12' foot logs, this would have been a great log for the sawmill. I found this broken off Pignut hickory back in the spring looking for sheds and shrooms. The broken off top of this was laying on the ground approximately where I laid the butt log down. You can see the sawdust trail in the upper left corner of the pic where the top, which was just about the same length as the butt log, about 30', was actually laying. I cut it up and hauled it out before taking any pics. The tippy top branches of this were laying across the property line. I'm standing in the top of the tree for this pic.

Felling trees scares the shit out of me. I managed to lay this one pretty much exactly where I wanted it. This was a helluva lot more tree than it looked like last May, lol. I'm seriously getting too old to be doing shit like this by myself out in the middle of the woods, but this a big bunch of choice firewood for 2026-2027. Great day to be out in the woods on clean up duty.
