I’ve been selling a few loads of what I cut up in the spring on FB Market Place. Biggest load was 3/4 cord that filled the back of my truck with and put the rest on a trailer so I could get it all in one trip. I plan to cut as much as I can this winter for next year’s inventory. Enjoyable way to make a few $$$$.

It’s rainy and shitty out here today, but I had the day off and ran to the farm for a few hours to work on next year’s inventory. Cut down 2 oaks. Both had lost their tops in the August derecho, so were just standing trunks. The big one was 25” in diameter, so the thickest tree I have felled yet. Pretty cool when it went over. There is another standing dead oak near it that looks close the 30” and probably 70 to 80 feet tall. I’ll wait until I have a buddy around before I attempt that one.

View attachment 115987Ole red with new to me wheels and rubber is back in action. I love this truck it has lived an absolutely hellish life for a half ton pick up but has never disappointed me just ram it harder or get more slack in the strap and give it hell and it will go.
I had a 2001 Z71 that was like that. The wood that thing hauled was impressive....

Well, due to me working 12’s all week left me with just barely enough time to run into Lowe’s mid week to grab one and some D batts and just set it on a small mantle that doesn’t get hot to get me through the rest of the week. I just now finished mounting it in a much better more desirable location. I’ll take it down and remove batts after I stop burning in spring to help it last longer.
BTW, with these mild temps this week I’ve gotten by with just loading it in the evenings around 8. This is what was left since last night....

Most people with outdoor burners around me never cover their wood. I don't understand why not. Burning wet wood would certainly make your fans work Extremely hard right???

Agreed but I do it primarily cuz burning dry or damp wood burns more efficiently than soaked or water logged wood (pun intended) in my opinion. Hey, a friend had a huge pool cover he was throwing away so I cut it into sections and improvised.🤷🏻‍♂️👍🏻

It got down to 16 over night here in the SW and I just reloaded the boiler an hour ago. Water temp still at 170 and most of wood was gone but tons of embers and heat in box as fan was running. I loaded up last night around 6:30-7.
Heaved in two 15” logs after leveling out embers along with some medium and smaller logs. I’ll reload again tonight around 7. Dang toasty in here!🤗👍🏻

Worked a bit on the big hickory today that fell in the August derecho. I bucked up the trunk that was on the ground, but not sure how to get the other one down that is snagged up high. Tried pulling it down with long chains last week with a 12,000 pound 4wd tractor with no luck.....
I counted the rings and got 138. That’s older than Geezer and Fletch. I think.
