Most of my life, it was our grandfather that taught us about the basics of hunting but in the earlier years on Thanksgiving morning, our Dad would go out with Jeff and I to kick brush piles and walk the fence rows for the annual bunny hunt. Its a tradition like many of you have on this day. I have only missed it a few years in my life due to warm weather or rain. In more recent years my oldest daughter would go carrying my boyhood 20 gage. When she was little but old enough to keep up she thought it was great fun to tag along and be the "dog" jumping on brush piles and so on.
This morning in honor of Dad and Gramp I kept that tradition, carrying Gramps ol Winchester 20 gage. It was a lonely walk alone this year but I'm still glad I made the trip out. I saw deer and tree rats but no bunnies so I wiped the old gun down, put the shells back in the old weathered box and woke my youngest daughter up for breakfast.

Saw the local 5 pt, and a decent young 8pt. Dad took down a tree rat with his silenced compressed air pellet rifle :)

Have you seen the walls of his house... Screw that. He should be pushing for me. lol
As it is I'm giving him my tried and true Winchester and a box of sabots. Just point and squeeze!

Thanks for the kind words though Huck.

I got skunked bowhunting this morning, but had fun toting the shotgun around afterwards. I'm headed out in the morning to a spot with a decent amount of does. The plan is to shoot a big doe and take it to my family Thanksgiving tomorrow afternoon. I have some family members who could use the meat, so I figure we can quarter it up after dinner and split it up. That'd make for a good day...

Diablo and i headed out this morn to do some deer hunting, dad was going to a spot where i couldnt fit a climber so i went to film for diablo. At first light we had 2 shooters about 75 yards away, at the most. They started to fight then just backed down, then one make a rub and a scrape. The grunted and snort wheezed a lil then walked on like it ws a normal day. We never got a good look at the more dominate buck, but the least dominate buck was a dandy for sure. Then a lil 6 pt came in to some rattles and grunts. Thats all for the day other than spooking some does on the way out, which diablo almost put a stock on lol. Still a great hunt and great turkey day!

Gramp got it in the 1930's. That 20 gage is incredibly balanced and is just a treat to carry.
About the only wear is at the balance point it has be carried all those years. I just love it.
Thanks
