Well... good hunt so far, nice up and commer rolled into shanktown just like the script says. Not real hard to pass him, but it is the last day of my bowhunting '24.
Shooter rolled up with two forks, shot him clean pass thru at 14yds. Waiting 30. Stopped and was looking at the licking branch.
14 yds, mid thoracic quarting away, ran maybe 60 yrds, stopped, he might have fallen there can't see with binos.
Felt and looked good at the time. Sitting here thou... all kinds of thoughts assailing good feelings!!
@xbowguy
I couid hear, "STAY AWAY FROM THE SHOLDER!" LOL.
Dint miss.
Great stand.
Fell where I thought. Love those 50 yd shot to animal tracking jobs. Good shot for the angle, exit on this side.
He surprised me, great hunt, nice buck, not P&Y which is my yearly goal on the farm but for the bucks in daylight on my farm one of bigger three. The others get a chance to grow. This fella will be joining us for Xmas dinner.
Recap of a good hunt on my last day and last hunt, saw 10 or 12 deer, was right in the middle of them jousting and chasing. Picked Pine because of the doe activity around the feeder, winds weren't good,, chancy but its been a great morning, rising thermals area with 0 wind. I Dont for the life of me understand how I didnt get winded. Two older does came out and I thought for sure that was it.... they never twitched at as close as 12 yds and they were upwind and downwind.. per the milkweed.
8 or 9 does were within 120yds of me in every direction, not expected, but they were creeping along the edge of a bowl. Some came out to feed and hit the feeder. A fork worked thru, chasing, then a 8pt rolled up broadway to within 12yds. Still no spooking, another basket 6pt worked they scent checking like that previous 8pt.
Spike came out, but then got the feeder, he then alerted. Looking behind me. The way the wind was blowing.. Calmed down for a min. Heard then saw a big bodied fork and another small buck same time I saw this 8pt 5' from my tree at 21' high. Antlers were outside the ears and big body with decent tine lenght. Said heck with it, last day, etc, shooter and he walked out, stopped, the other 3 bucks were watching him, drew, remembering to bend and "STAY AWAY FROM THE SHOLDER" LoL. Which at a steep angle isn't bad advice at all.
Got the pin on and pass thru with a NAP spitfire Maxx, thought it looked good. He ran 30'-40' behind some brush, with some pine needles ... never heard or saw him again.
So. Sat an hour, texted my buddies and Mrs. Arrow looked great , walked a half circle at 50yds not looking for blood or wanting to cross his trail but sneak back change and check out the track... no need. He was piled up right where I saw him last.
The bigger ones should get bigger. Xmas dinner venison loins secured.
