I love it Mike! Should suite us well.

Just a quick update guys. Although my work schedule isn't going to be as cooperative as I thought this year, I did get moved to 4x10hour days. I so I will have every Sat-Monday off, which will be nice. I do have a to cover a weekend ever 6 weeks, but that's no biggie.

Flung some arrows last night, was really happy with how I was shooting. Stopped and locked in permission on two of my main properties, which is always a relief.

I plan to break out the smoker Sunday night after work, and if the weather cooperates, I will be hitting the woods and starting my 2011-12 season Monday morning.

Best of luck to any of you guys that are heading out this weekend! Have fun and most importantly, be safe!

Hunt number 1 is in the books. I saw a nice doe with two young-ins. They went straight to another hunter and then she busted him. They started my way and she said screw it and they went the way they came. 90 acres of woods and this guy sets up 40 yards from me. It took him 45 minutes to pick a fuggin tree and get up it! :tantrum: This was a permit hunt on County land.

Nothing like going into the woods prepared.... are you able too hunt it again or is a one time deal?

I have it all season but I need to reserve my hunts a week in advance. Four hunters per day.

Well before I head out for the afternoon

I figure I would check in from the AM hunt

Thick fog limmited how far I could see to 40 yds till around 9 AM
Combined with scattered light rain and the drops coming off the trees

It made for a interesting morning

I passed on a doe & red yearling about 9 and a basket 8 close to 7:30
Those are the only 3 deer I saw

I heard several deer cross the creek both up and down stream of me
But not exactly sure witch crossings

I did take a shot as I was read to leave
A fat ground hog was feeding about 50 yds out next to the bank
I changed to my practice arrow
Took a guess on hold over with my 35 yd pin and took the shot

Just missed just high , maybe a inch over it's back
But if a deer
It still should have been high in the lungs

Good luck with the PM hunts
I actualy preferr to hunt the PM

Thanks for checking in John, sounds like you had some action this morning, that's a good thing. I may be hitting the woods tonight myself if I can get out of here pretty soon.

Nothing doing this evening. I hunted Williams Co. I did bump three getting back to the van. I heard the weirdest stuff tonight. There were small fire crackers going off in the woods and they were coming from many different directions. Then something whizzed past my head like ten feet away! I thought I was being shot at. Then I hear what sounds like large fireworks going up a bit farther away, but there was no report. I know there was nobody in the woods...???? :smiley_confused_vra

Dang Mike, that would be an uneasy feeling!

I didn't make it home early enough to hunt, but did some road scouting around the properties I hunt. Nothing, didn't see a single deer, even on the route home. May get out Monday possibly if weather and wind cooperate.

Good luck to everyone going out this morning. I will be heading to the blind after work and sons football game. Hoping I at least see a big plump doe to fill the freezer with!

Mike ........the light I saw last night is out to get you LOL

I went out this AM
Hunted a different stand , as the creek is up 4' and the deer are less likely to cross unless they have to

Saw a small yearling , but no Mama
Thermo Cell ran out of fuel around 8:30
Within 10 min the skeeters were to thick to hunt
So I gave it up for the AM
Probely try again in the PM

Finally got out to the blind overlooking our clover/alfalfa field. I will hunt the field tonight and then head to the stands tomorrow. Man I hope something walks by tonight!

Hunt #3 was with my son in the 2-man ladder stand. We were hoping to see something, but between the quads and the mowers, we saw nothing. We had 45 minutes of quiet from 7:15 to 8, but nothing. We sat for four hours which was tough for him, but we had some good conversation between me telling him to sit still. Good times.
