I was planning on going out yesterday but went fishing instead, my dad caught a five pound saugeye on the fly rod out of the scioto! I'm going on Thursday to a property on the Darby that I haven't been to all season and I'm not sure where I want to set up, there are crop fields, crp fields, a valley and a ridge a hundred yards back from the river. What kind of spots do you guys favor?

Red=ridge
Green=crop field
Blue=crp
Pink=valley/river bottom
Light blue= where I have watched turkey roost across river
I know it's hard to say without having ever seen the land but it's about one hundred fifty acres and I'm not a very experienced turkey hunter and I won't have my dad with me to call so I'll have a hen and jake decoy and some quiet pretty bad calling from myself.

If you can't call well, I'd set up as close to the roost as possible. Maybe on the end of that ridge between the blue and green dots where that finger comes out. The river bottom would be a good spot also.

Thanks man, I'm thinking I'll start in the river bottom since that might be an easier spot for them to fly down as that is a very steep and tall ridge. I'll just have to see how tall everything has grown in the bottom because by midsummer it has nettles up to my elbows. If the turkeys aren't cooperating then I'll just try to catch some smallies and saugeye. I'm takin a friend whose brand new to hunting and fishing

A guy named Brett berry just gave me a new zink pot call because my mom did surgery on his dog's eyes! He is pretty well known for his turkey calling and his turkey dogs from what I can tell and he's part of the zink staff. Didn't know there was such thing as a turkey dog but it's pretty cool lol

Well I set up at the north end of the river bottom a little past the last pink dot. However I only saw one turkey and it busted out of the tree exactly where I was planning on setting up [emoji21]
Got some good fishing in though, the Big Darby is beautiful.

Yeah that's the north end, my only thing there is I'm uncertain how much the birds will come over the ridge. Between the crp and the ridge is a pretty steep and very thick slope down to a small dry creek (the right side of the crp is sloping down into the small valley between it and the ridge). The river bottom is relatively open towards the north end but most of the woods west of the ridge are very thick with honeysuckle and other tall brush.
