I am home now. I downloaded the pictures from the camera. More of the same. Mornings and evenings we have the same deer using the area. Going to be great to do the siding next week, blow them out, and have them disappear for hunting season. (Sense the sarcasm here?)

Not a thing growing in the plots. Today was the first rain we have had since seeding them. Hopefully we will get them to pop out of the ground now. I will attach some pictures for your enjoyment. 365 pictures since the last camera check. Not too shabby. Did get the buck on camera quite a bit more but he is still just a youngster. Best pictures so far came in today. 8 deer in one picture. Well, 7 in the frame with the buck showing up later. Not a bad little group moving around this small woods.

Nicest "treehouse" i have seen. Electric, 7 does and buck too. That has to be encouraging. My plots up here are struggling and didn't get much rain until yesterday either. Hopefully everything will take off now and we get some more rain from Isaac.

Thanks. I think the tree house is pretty nice myself. I could darn near live there. lol

Number of deer IS encouraging, but I am afraid I am going to blow them all out next week. After this weekend's show, I will be in there knocking out the siding on the tree house. Today I gave the shooting range a good workout. 100rds with the 45. My wife knocked out about 50rds with the Airweight. Then she plinked a couple magazines with the 9mm. Later, I pulled out the 243 and shot 3 groups zeroing at 100yds then backed up as far as I could (170 yds) and fired 3 more shots to verify my group and see what kind of drop I could expect. Yep. Sounded like a war over there today. Good news? Several of the neighbors around there are shooting regularly. I am talking weekly. I don't think I am going to bother them much with the shooting, but putting up siding next week might not be the best idea. Sadly, letting it go another winter with no siding is a worse idea. I will have to take my chances.

Is it just me, or do those deer look really short?!?

Insert midget deer porn jokes here. Lmao

Here is the latest. Accomplished some shooting last week and the range worked well. Got Momma out there TOO!uploadfromtaptalk1346987131187.jpg

Emptied a couple hundred rounds then came back later with a better test. I have a great 100yd range and if I shoot from the top deck of my gooseneck trailer I can shoot 170yds. Might have to rearrange parking spots for trailers in efforts to have a 200yd range. Lol. Here was the test piece. Remington 243.uploadfromtaptalk1346987319196.jpg

Later in the week last week I was back out there. Misplaced my keys for trail cameras and this was the last place I had them. They later turned up in my truck. Doh! While there I took a quad back to the tree house to see if I sat them in there while waiting out the rain. Snapped a couple pics of the "food plots".
uploadfromtaptalk1346987506832.jpguploadfromtaptalk1346987524759.jpg

Appear to be coming up nicely in the woods but very little in the open area in front of the range. Time will tell I guess. I can always hit this area again next year. I did manage to watch a couple fawns hop off as I putted thru on the quad and watch me. Always cool.

Had to post the picture of my wife's blinding white legs. Maybe this will ease some of the harassment I take about the big black lady which hit on me in Mississippi while Joe and I were traveling thru. Keep calling me "White Suga" if you want, but looking at Erin's legs, you can see it is nothing but granulated white sugar color for me (unless you count the freckles and red hair). :smiley_blink:

Lookin' good. I have a semi-shaded plot in one spot that seems to take a bit longer to grow because of the lack of sunlight.

I like the scrollwork on the .243.

Phil, is that the model 760 in .243? Also like the designing on it....

Trying to remember. 760? Maybe 7600. . . Hmmm. . . .I need to go look. It is a Remington 243 Pump though and those are factory engravings. There were 3 different scenes engraved on them. Probably should find the other 2 and make a collection of them, but would rather enjoy them in the field than wipe them down twice a year. Probably just keep this one and enjoy it. haha

Alright. This is frustrating. Time is against me and I still need to finish the siding on the tree house. Dad and I drove the Jeep back there today. I think he now knows why I keep it around. I drove it like I stole it. lmao

Measured everything up again and took inventory of what materials we have laying around. 4 outside corners, starter strips to go around, and probably real close to enough J-channel. Might need a bit of F-channel for the soffit. I am thinking under $200 in siding and we can have it done.

Here is a thought I want to bounce off you guys. Rather than painting the siding and trying to camoflage myself, what about the burlap style camo? I will post pictures again to save you from going back to look at the pics. I am thinking the burlap from decking to railing around edges will help if you are sitting in a chair. When I stand up to shoot though, I am going to stick out something fierce. What if I burlap camo from the rail to the overhang and leave openings every 3-4' which are say 18-24" wide? I think this would break up any silouhette pretty well. Suggestions?

Changed camera card while in there as well. Same decent numbers of does and fawns. One pathetic buck still running with them occasionally. I was last in there a week ago. Good to see I haven't altered their patterns yet but a couple days of hammering and sawing siding won't help. Oh well. Must be done before winter. I was also bummed to see the clover not doing very well. Then I looked closer to the pictures. Dang deer are simply eating it as fast as it comes up. Guess we will blow the leaves off before they freeze and frost seed going into spring.

Dude, it's a fucking penthouse in the sky and you are worried about camo?!? lmao

Sorry, just struck me as funny. If you are serious about hunting from it, just use the burlap around the railing and put black siding on it. Then you can wear black clothes and go in black face...

I hear you Jesse. However, when the Roush youngsters are fidgety and you want them to experience the hunting experience you might think differently as well. Does this make more sense? lol

FLutey- Trust me, I looked into it. Way cool! However, even setting up as a dealer the dealer cost is 2.5x the cost of regular siding. Not sure how the dealers sell much of it.

Found my solution today. My dad called me and said he went out to Darby Surplus (they are pretty much like a second hand construction materials place which buys seconds, opened boxes, left over materials, etc.) today and rounded up some siding. Multiple colors, but mainly tan or neutral. I now have 4 squares of siding at the property for $120. Guess we will paint it whenever we get the time.

No, it makes sense. Just not sure that camo is going to be on my mind when it comes to a single family dwelling that doubles as a hunting blind! lmao

Why not cut some longer windows in it you can shoot through?

Phil,

You're thinking far too much.

If you plan on hunting out of that structure, please remember that structures like that are used for hunting in, say, Pennsylvania. Aka "Here, let me set my coffee down, hell, it's got more than 3 points, pass me the 30.06" BOOM. "Shit son, fire up the 3 wheeler, and I need some more cream in my coffee." and then "Great hunting, let's do this again next year"

10'x12'. It is a shed on stilts. Fancy as heck for a shed, but a shed nonetheless. lol

Because it was already on the property when i bought it, I have made some improvements to try to alter deer movement closer to it. Since the deer seem to be entering/exiting within 40yds of the tree house, now I am rethinking my plans. Initially, it was a novelty and fun place to take the kids. Now, I am scratching my head and thinking "Dang. The MR Mineral lick is kicking butt. These deer are hanging tight to the tree house. Better clear it out and throw some clover in there." Now the deer are still hanging out and I might make it my rut stand or just a meat stand. Is it hunting? Guess it depends on who you ask.

For the contest, if I kill a deer from the tree house, I will not be offended if you feel obligated to put an "*** Killed close to a mineral lick from the front porch***" next to my kill. :smiley_crocodile:

Been awhile since I have updated. Clover never took off much. Looks like parsley or something on a plate for looks at a fancy restaurant. Matters not. I have something that is SOOOOOO much better than clover in my woods. ACORNS! Looks like the marble factory had an explosion. Good stuff. I blew the leaves off the clover anyway today just to attempt to help the clover as much as possible.

I had one of my workers give me a hand today on the property. We got over 100 trees planted. We should get the rest of them finished tomorrow. After the rest of the trees are in the ground, I will head back to the tree house again and keep working on the siding. What a bummer I am just now getting an opportunity to work on it and it is mid October. Quite frustrated with this.

Good news: Farmer was picking the corn off the field next to me. I would suspect he will be picking the corn behind me soon as well. More good news, he isn't a high dollar farmer. I fully expect him to leave plenty of corn on the ground. lol

Bad news:
As I was heading back to get more materials in the tree house, I bumped into another hunter. He was sliding down the tree in his climber to approach me. He wanted to know what I was doing? He was clueless as to the property lines. He thought he had permission on ALL of my woods.

Long story short: I knew the guy. He is not a bad guy. He was just misinformed. He is aware of the lines now and I am not worried about him trespassing. He actually was about 10yds onto the neighbor's property and was okay.

More bad news: He tells me he had to inform someone else they were on the wrong property. Claims it was a neighbor. The hunter told him he lived next door and thought he was on his property? Huh? How is it the neighbor (none of my neighbor's hunt) didn't know where his own property ends? So, essentially, this guy had really run another hunter off my property. Freaking great. Can't wait to see how many more I run into. It is well marked and I will be sure to prosecute the first few I catch. This should help get the word out. You nail one or two and people started minding the property lines a bit better. lol

At least you have acorns! Fall planted clover never grows very fast for me so I plant it with oats, rye, or wheat. The clover should take off in the spring for you.

Wanted to know what you were doing ON YOUR OWN PROPERTY:tantrum:. At least he is informed now. It amazes me how so many idiots ignore "no trespassing" signs. Go get em Phil!

Spring update: Clover was looking pathetic. The area flooded out in the early spring. Several weeks ago I had a small window of opportunity where it dried up decent. I cleared the crap like sticks and such out of the area and overseeded with clover. Nothing fancy, just threw it out on the ground. Here are the results.
