I should add that this bird had some of the richest copper colored feathers of any birds I've seen. If he didn't have a busted up fan, I'd have considered a mount.

Whats with all the busted up,crappy fans this year? Any ideas

I'd contribute it to the larger number of 2-3 year old birds lending itself to more fighting and jockeying for position. Most birds we've ever had on our farm this year and the guys hunting around us have said the same regarding 2-3 year olds.
