The TOO Live Hunt and Recap Thread: 2013 Edition

I'm back home and going to bed. Had an awesome time for my first hunt. It's was a beautiful morning, muggy later on but still very glad I went out this morning. It's going to be miserable this late afternoon though. My daughter won't get home till around 5 which sucks but I leave it up to her if she still wants to go. I'm hoping for some cloud cover but the wind will be perfect for our set.

Good night TOOzers....:smiley_bril:

So what was smelling up your area Ric?

He didn't want to admit it, but after searching for something dead he just realized it was his own ass he was smelling the whole time. rotflmao

Lmao Stevie! It wasn't me cuz this dude just showered and was smelling like smoke which worked yet again for me with 4 deer straight DW of me with narry flinch. It was funny watching them jump or startle at the occasional large thump of a nut hull falling from a squirrels lunge from tree to tree though.

J, after getting down and reaching the area I noticed the smell was still lingering but not as overbearing as it was earlier. All I found was a matted down coon pelt with a 1000 or so maggots squirming all over it. It smelled just as bad but not as strong and was in the general location so I figured it was the culprit, at least I hope so and not a dead deer.

Sis should be getting home shortly so I better start getting ready.

It's official, I'm finally hunting with a daughter!!! I'm running the camera and she is in kill mode with the 10 point. She's currently just the owner of one either or tag and we're looking for a respectable 2.5 year old or older. That was her call, I'm good with that.
We went over all safety and deer movement predictions and yardages. Here are some pics:

Hope she gets one ric!

I saw three tonight. Had a couple hours after work so I got some hot sweaty, rainy, seat time. A small buck and a doe came out around 6:30 and at 6:45 what appeared to be a good buck came out about 125 yards from me. It was just dark enough that I couldnt really see which one it was. I dont think it was Mr. T, possibly Jr. I could tell he had a big body, and a reasonably tall rack. I grunted at him, and got his attention, he just wouldnt commit to come in.

Thanks guys! We got down about 7:20 which was just a little early but since this was her first time there was no way I was taking the chance of getting stuck in the tree with deer around us with it getting darker. Most importantly though was her being able to see all the steps on her descent. We got out with out boogering or seeing any deer which is a plus. We both had a great time.
Once we got back to the truck after the 400 yard walk we both loaded up on Gatorade and water as we only had one bottle of water between us in the stand.(my bad...lol)
Before I started the truck to leave I looked at her and said, Well, how did you like it? She smiled and said, I loved it! I'm officially a "deer hunter!"
I'm still riding high......:smiley_coolpeace:

Good stuff!!! You should be proud. One day I'd hope for the same with my daughters!

Good deal Ric. Just think of how excited she will be if she gets one on the ground. You will not be able to keep her out of the tree lol. Awesome stuff man.

Dave, Sneak back in the oaks about 2 tomorrow and you will get a shot at one of those bucks man. I have been seeing all the deer move at 7:30am and 6:30 pm this week.
