Started the bluing process. Did 3 coats so far in the barrel. Will do 3 more today. Got the trigger housing cleaned up. Started working on the stock and fore grip.
A couple interesting things to note. The stock was in pretty bad shape. It had three drywall screws holding things together. Two on one side and one on the other. I will try to fill them with putty.
Once I got the stock sanded down I also noticed a letter "T" carved in one side of the stock.
Not real sure who would have done that. Could have been one of my Grandpa's brothers I guess or even my Uncle Thomas.
You can see the T in the photo.
All that is left is to oil the stock and fore grip. I will also work on blending the old screw holes. The wood filler sticks out all I had was natural color and needed something darker.
The last one is FIE. Which was another Hardware store gun. Made in Brazil and imported to Miami I believe. Pretty sure it was bought by my Dad in early 1980's and was given to my brother for christmas.
Started on the stock of this one first. It had a real bad deep rub on one side so I knew it would take some time. Sat down in front of the TV with some sand paper and got busy.
Wife loves it when I do this stuff in the living room.
Got it all smoothed out after a while.
In one of the pics you can see the rub. Doesn't really show how bad it was but you get the idea.
Got the fore grip sanded down and stained. Put a coat of try oil on both the stock and fore grip once the stain dried.
Sanded the barrel down started with 220 then 400 then 0000 steel wool. Then applied three coats of Perma blue. Going to let it sit overnight then I will put two more coats on.
Sunday I went to get a few more things done on the guns. I noticed one of the barrels had an orange tint. Pulled it out in better light and it appeared to have a rust tint to it. With the lighter color the last two barrels had and the orange tint I decided to strip them both back down and start over.
I had another full kit so after getting both barrels sanded down as well as the trigger housings and miscellaneous other small parts I opened a new bottle of blue.
Wow what a difference. Not sure what happened to the other bottle. It worked well on the first gun I did but for some reason didn't for the other 2.
