our garden roared back to life after it quit raining and got hot a few weeks ago. I'll be eating the first heirloom 'mater of the year on a BLT here shortly. peppers are on fire, cucumbers like I've never had before. been eating both for a couple of weeks now. tons of fruit on the tomato plants, squashes all coming along, but my beans, which usually have gone nuts by now are struggling a bit. no pics, but I had my doubts if our garden would produce anything to speak of three weeks ago.

Jalapenos are text book. Grape tomatoes and summer squash on fire.
Back this evening for maters and beans. Was a productive 
Put together a couple of tomato samplers for co-workers, then put up beans with Kenna Grace. Hopefully she'll be my helper for many years to come!

My cukes are now coming in thus pickles in progress. 3 quarts of “spicy” tonight.
The garden is struggling this year. Not sure what the deal is, but I did manage to do my first batch of pickles this weekend. Progress!
The apples are starting to fall more frequently and the pears are loaded up. The girls just picked up 2 and half buckets worth.
If you look back at my pics from earlier in the year, you'll see a cobbled together fencing system and one hell of a weed patch. I still need to drop the 4 skinny maples in the back and remove the line of fence the gate is hung on, but I'm very close to being done with my reclamation project! I'll finish up this weekend with some tilling under, a treatment of Sevin, and a dose of turnip seed. Before winter, I'll get the rest of the area brushhogged and it'll be buttoned up pretty nicely. Gotta drop that ash before winter too, but I'm waiting for cooler weather.

The drought pretty much killed my garden to turnip patch conversion, but the heavy frost this morning was certainly the final dagger. It's not what I hoped for, but it's still nice looking out the back window and seeing this bright green patch. Next year, we'll do better!
Last year sucked. Wife never really got into it and the weather was complete trash. About time to order seeds if we want to do anything this year. Just a reminder to those that also like to start from seed.
We kicked things off tonight with cucumbers, cantaloupe, watermelon, and zucchini. I may separate my maters and peppers into their own garden and do beans, this flat, and corn in another that doesn't get much weeding. Either way, I'm ready to get after it.

We noticed sprouts yesterday morning after planting on Friday. Cucumbers win the race!
