That's where I get all my plants and seeds. Great people. My gardens are right up jacksonburg rd. from there. I'll probably be there this weekend again

Here's 66 tomato plants, 36 Roma and 30 misc, about a dz cauliflower plants and some of the wife's herbs in my cold frame, awaiting the garden. Going to get some amish paste tomatoes and peppers yet. Also have 3-4 kinds of beans too. Pumpkins in June, should keep me busy till canning time [emoji2957]

More on the Amish Paste breed please and more picture of that cold box if ya don't mind, with lid and hinge.

We are trying to decide where we want our permanent garden at the new place, but first up is a new tiller. We can always move the garden location in a few years if we completely miss target. I would like a small hoop/high tunnel or glass green house but wife isn't a fan. A cold box is an option that I can tuck out of sight. Do you grow any cold weather items in it in off season?

Also, is anyone having luck with store bought potatoes to sow or going seed only? I know what my grandpa used to say regarding seed only, just not sure if anything has changed since then. We often have a couple sprouting in the store bought bag as it ends it's life.

Adam, from my 2 years of recent horticulture experiences....hoop houses will be best and cheapest for us simple men. Some low budget growers use them in the commercial business. Add electric, water, heat, and fan and all is well.

The amish paste tomatoes, like Roma, are best used for canning tomato sauces. Last yr we made spaghetti, marinara, and hot dog chili sauces plus stewed tomatoes with them. Very meaty tomato, holds up well. The amish paste seem to be a little bit bigger than the Roma.
The cold frame is nothing more than a wood frame with a glass screen door. Lol. Little bit of riggin there, but it works. Yes you can grow into November or December with certain plants.
A few pictures from last year, and the grandbabies in the pumpkin patch

Seeds came today and I opened a small 10'x35' area at the current house. We have only had the 1 above ground box since '08 and it has served us well every year except last due to the weather. This summer appears to have opened up, so inflatable pool and gardening it is, lol.

Tiller did well on the virgin ground, looking forward to finalizing the site location at the property and break new ground over next 2 weeks if it dries up a touch more. Looking forward to growing some things like sweetcorn, pumpkins, watermelons, carrots and beans like when I was kid. Memorial Day is earliest planting up here, so time to get some seeds started with the boys in the house.

Looking good Ben.

I have 3 flats of plants awaiting planting. I need to get my fence up and my dirt tilled under again, but it's crazy wet right now. I need 4-5 consecutive dry days, but it'll be a while until that happens.

Hard to believe it's the last day of April. This year I will be sure to follow the Almanac, last year was the first we did not because of the rain/temps, and the yield showed.

So we have started turning ground by hand and I've got plans to make at least a 10 X 20 garden. My question is, is it too late to get seeds and start them in flats in the house or should I just start looking at finding plants locally? In years past I've just did spur of the moment clean out an old bed along the deck and buy a few plants and stick them in the ground. This year I'd like to actually have some sort of a garden and actually can things. I figure if the size I end up is too small then I will go bigger. Tomatoes, various hot peppers and green peppers, possibly beans and maybe cucumbers.
