Killed my mallards today . Found a little pocket and kicked em out at 10:15 . Got setup by 1030 and was done in 20 minutes . Had some big groups come in but only shot singles and pairs . Let the big groups go .

Nice work Jake. I wish I could find a pocket of ducks up here. The rest of the LEMZ season is looking pretty bleak. I may have to head your way soon...

Went out for a quick marsh hunt tonight near the bay. At around 4 o'clock I heard the telltale "whoosh" of gliding wings overhead. I looked up to see 3 mallards, a drake and two hens. On their second swing I decided to take the shot. The stiff north wind was was forcing them to work in kinda long but they were inside 35 yds. I dropped the drake in one shot but just broke a wing. I sent Betty to chase him down... About 100 yds away she caught up to him, plucked him out from underwater as he dove. That's the only duck I killed tonight but at least it was the right one. I was pleased to see a little bling when Betty got back to shore.

I love the look of that gun, I may have to look into investing in one :smiley_chinrub:

I feel like a kid waiting on Christmas! Told the wife last night not to expect me in daylight this weekend cause I was chasing birds!!!

If the river calms down, we are going to hit up our public spot on Saturday. If not, we'll go to the blind. Sunday we are planning an all day hunt at the blind. So pumped!

Dude, WTF?

I've been tracking down properties like a mad man lately. I had two on my priority list. First one is a freshly reclaimed gravel pit that 200-400 geese are hitting with regularity. Guy that owns it lives in a $3 million dollar house in FL. The second is a farm pond next to an old reclaimed gravel pit. Guy who owns it lives in a $1.2 million dollar house in Berkeley, CA. Friggin' crazy shit.

Damn that sucks. I've hit that kind of road block a time or two myself. Never had any luck with em.

Scouting the river this morning on the way to work. So happy my change in jobs didn't rob me of that. Still travel the same roads and make my own schedule. Hope I see something to make tomorrow worth the excitement!

My buddy drove down and scouted around your area yesterday. He saw birds but not the massive numbers like when we go the last two weeks of season. Good luck! Hope you guys kill.

I've learned two things about waterfowl here. One is we have legitimate world class Canada goose hunting IF you can hunt the right spot. However all those spots are locked down. And two, if you have a boat and it gets cold, January on the river is amazing.

I have neither. I simply go to go. But one day I'll be a qualified river guide and we'll slay them. Trying to remain patient!

Here is our set up tomorrow. Curious to hear decoy setup suggestions. I have 4 goose floaters and 2 full bodies, 2 mojo ducks, a jerk cord with 1 hen and 3 dramas and 8 floaters (3 hens and 5 drakes). Our blind is the red spot. It will be a W wind and we are facing S. The sand bar extends well out in to the river here, especially to our 2 o'clock.

Time to put a hunt together Bigten!!! I'm game... I'm sure Carpn (Jake) will drive down. Hell the only thing you'd need is a gun and shells, we've got everything else.

Been scouting A LOT lately and the reports across the state are not very impressive. I had well over a thousand birds locked down before deer gun season and now I'm lucky to see 50! There's still some geese around but they know the safe zones and are damn near impossible unless you run traffic on them. Found a small pocket of divers I may try to go in and kill tomorrow or sunday.

I drove around two counties today and didn't see anything but ditch eaters and a few family groups of geese.

Nothing worth getting excited about.
