I've seen 3 different groups of geese that were 50+ deep. Got buzzed by 5 mallards at the public spot checking out the spot I want to hide tomorrow. Stopped by the blind to grab our chairs and burlap, had 22 mallards on the water within 75 yards of the blind. We are sitting dark to dark there Sunday. Got high hopes! We kill 6 this weekend and I'll be thrilled. For some of you guys, that's like saying I'm thrilled with a 100" 8 point! lmao

Scratched out one drake mallard. We saw several birds and should have killed 4-5. I shot like shit and was with 2 guys who still haven't patterned their guns to a good she'll. The good news is my decoy set up was perfect for the birds that worked and the drake I killed was textbook. Once we have about, that spot will be awesome. Old Remi pulled off a 70 yard retrieve out in the river on the drake. I was a proud poppa.

Tomorrow we are sitting most of the day at our blind. Hoping those 22 I saw yesterday work in over the course of the day in small flocks.

Well you got the toughest part down. Once you know the dekes are right that's a big confidence booster. Awesome to hear Remi still has it!

Good to hear! We've hunted here before and stayed tight to the mouth of the creek. I ventured out towards the channel today and was amazed at how far I could get out in the sand bar. This made our spread way more visible. Birds coking from down river, made one fly over, turned and came in. We landed a group of 8 like that, but 5 were too far down river. I killed my duck out of the 3 that landed in front of the blind. We have a couple singles and a pair come from up river and come right in for close looks. Unfortunately I though they'd come back and held off on calling the shot. We probably should have shot.

A boat will allow us to get on the other side of the creek. Same decoy set up will have them landing 15 yards from the boat. Plus I won't have to hold off on birds I'm afraid Remi can't get to in time.

Finally got off my ass and went with a buddy on my first Erie layout hunt. We swapped places a bit ago, now I'm sitting in the tender. Not a bad start but not on fire either. I killed the only 2 birds to come in range but haven't seen a ton. This is fun though! May have to do this more often!

Took my gramps out for the first time duck hunting. He's been an upland bird hunter his entire life but after multiple heart attacks and other problems his legs don't hold up like they used to. Broke the boat out and did some open water hunting. He shot a drake redhead and a ruddy duck. Missed a bluebill and hen buffy. He's still having fun though so that's all I care about. Not a whole lot of birds around, kind of has me worried with all these divers down here already. Oh well we shall see what this season brings!

Got to jump in with a couple buddies after school and killed 4 mallards. A pair came in and we whacked em. Shortly after a group of three came in and we killed 2/3. #3 got dropped but managed to get out. As we were picking up decoys every bird in the area landed on us. Literally over 300 ducks landed in under 3 minutes. Unfortunately it was way after shooting light. Amazing sight to see though.

Got to do a little dog work with Jake yesterday. Def been slacking on training Sarge. This summer his hand commands were solid, yesterday he was the one giving hand commands and it consisted of one finger! Still made the retrieves for us and made a nice long 80-100 yard blind retrieve across big water. Either way it was still a good hunt and fun, plus it got me out of hanging out with the gf's family for 4 hrs :pickle:

Good stuff! I told Jake yesterday that your primo 'stache was impressive! Lol

Annual Booger catcher!!! only time its okay to look like an old 70's porn star. Wish I could grown an Amish beard like Jake but work prevents such things. I told him he needs to jump all over Cheech, sounds like a great animal!

Yea man he's a good dog with lots of potential. I really enjoyed working with him for a couple weeks. One of the most eager-to-please dogs I've ever been around.

Managed to get into a field again that we hunted right before Thanksgiving. Had a good hunt... 7 geese and 5 mallards. Could've had our 9 geese but our initial blind placement wasn't working. Moved em back after a few groups worked in too tight and it made a huge difference.

Nice job Jim!

Geese have been really inconsistent here. Scouted Wednesday and found good numbers but they weren't hitting fields, just flying from pond to pond in all directions. We'll see what this afternoon's drive turns up.
