The 6th of this month was the 90 day mark to my 40th birthday, which was enough to kick my ass in gear. I refuse to be 230+ when that day comes, so I've buckled down and am on the keto train for the 4th time now. This is the first time that I've had the "keto flu" and it's an interesting experience. Pretty bad diarrhea and general lethargy, which is probably an indicator of how unhealthy I was as of two weeks ago. I shed 7#s in a matter of 4 days, but will need to increase my caloric burn rate if I'm going to hit my goal of <215 by 9/6/22. The whole COVID thing really upended my routine and my drinking dramatically increased, so a big part of what I'm doing is cutting back on beer. I also fell back into to the whole"sweets before bed" trend that makes fat me, fatter. I never imagined my weight would turn into a lifelong struggle 😔

Keep at it, Jesse! Easier said than done, but find a way to enjoy the process. It makes dietary and physical activity a lot easier to incorporate into your daily schedule. The good news is, once you find your sweet spot, you can still smash beer on the weekends and enjoy some sweets. Good luck, I'm rootin for ya.

I redid my basement gym awhile back got rid of my old bench i had for 30 yrs and put new matting down and got a new bench with squat rack and also a cable pulley..get great tricep, chest, back and shoulder workouts with it...been walking 4 miles 5 days a week and went from 212 to 193 but hitting the weight 5 days a week back up to 200...been eating really well and very little sugar intake. Will be 59 July 25th so gotta keep at it. Best shape I have been in for awhile.

I got fat. Again. Look up "yo-yo" and my weight chart from 18-40 is on there looking like this: ↗️↘️↗️↘️↗️↘️↗️. Thankfully, I know how to fix things and have hit the proverbial wall yet again. I've hit a point as an "old dad" where I've taken to heart the reality that I'll be 58 when my last kid graduates high school. I don't want to be an old 58 and if I don't make some lifelong adjustments now, I'll stand a better chance of being an old 58 or worse, not seeing it.

I spent yesterday mapping out what worked well in 2016 when I lost 60#s (and have now gained 50 back, 20 of it since COVID) and got my ducks in a row to get after it again. I only need to lose 25#s to be where I was in November 2019, which is when I felt the best about my body composition. That's something I can do by turkey season with ease. I also assembled two pieces of equipment that I've had for a year now, but had no good spot for them. With the basement done, I now have a good space to workout.

I'll share so more as I go, especially my 14-day carnivore diet experiment that starts next Monday. Today is a 24 hour fast with a minimum of a gallon of water, plus coffee. With all I ate over the holidays, it'll take 4 days just to clear my bowels 😂
