Trapping Season 2025-2026

First check of the season and it was a good one! On the board with 17 muskrats today. My water sets were on fire… mostly around huts and feed beds. I did have 20 conibears set on bank runs and those were disappointing, catching only 1 and had 1 misfire also.

These rats up here are usually pretty big… L to 3XL for the most part. Last year I averaged about $2.50 for the pelts. I expect it’ll be similar this season, but I’ve also got a buyer for the carcasses… so that will get me an extra $1.50 each.

13 of the first 17 were worthy of putting-up. The remaining four were either too small or too damaged.

One more check today and put 8 more nice rats in the sled. I pulled all my traps to give it a rest until I can dedicate some more consecutive days off of work. Wrapped up with 38 total for this first round.

Last winter I hit 50 for the first time. This year, my goal is to break 100.
