We'll just heard a couple gun shots across the way. All I've heard other than crows and geese. I might have heard a gobble earlier but I'm beginning to wonder.

Pretty exiciying first turkey hunt for me down here in Hocking county. Got here at dark and nestled into a blow down and waited. Was getting light and so I made a call with the slate. Got a gooble response. I was thinking to myself, no shit. This is pretty cool ha! This unseen goobler and I went back and forth but he never came in. Even when I made a move closer to him. Sounds like the people surrounding me have seen some birds. I have heard 4 shots so far. All is quiet around me.

Mason and I had another fun hunt. No shots fired. We were within spitting distance of this bird three different times and never got a shot. He did exactly as he did Friday morning. I know where I'll be tomorrow. The stuff we're hunting him in is incredibly thick. Eventually we will see enough of his neck to kill him.

Had fun today, worked a group of birds, one old one with 7 hens and a couple other gobblers.
I made a couple moves and hid by a big tree and blowdown, got the 2 to break away and come in but man it is really green and thick this yr, drew the bow a couple times but all i could see is their heads when they came by.
Still got the old heart pounding thinking i might get an arrow in one.
Will try another day.

A thunderstorm came thru @ 430 , right before my alarm was to go off , so I turned off the alarm & went back to sleep. I didn't sleep long & decided to go out after looking at the radar. I woke up right before 5a, got dressed & got my ass out to the property.

That flock I mentioned went over the rise away from me & I got the bright idea to move in closer to where they were in case they come back. They had landed eight where I had been previously sitting the last few time out. I almost stopped there on my way in, but I had a plan. After a bit of sitting, I decided to move again. After stepping out into the gas line right of way, I spied a hen down .... to where I WAS originally sitting this am. Nothing was gobbling at all.

It was getting quite warm, so I wanted to walk around & get a better feel for the property lines, using my gps app. I was pleasantly surprised on how much further I was able to go, compared to not knowing for sure the other morning. I came across someone else clucking on the property a bit off , so I decided to sit down & fuck with him using my gobbler. Pretty soon, I saw him coming down the hill & went over to talk. We were almost on the property line by then, so I kept my mouth shut. Turns out , this guy has permission to morel hunt & he was telling me, that gobblers will gobble at thunder all night ... I knew that, but he said they won't make much noise the following day. I've never heard that. I haven't hunted in 12 years or so, so I dunno. We ended up exchanging phone #'s, in case one of us needs help during deer season. I continued to explore the property a bit after we parted, but it was getting hot, so I quit for the day.

On another note, I checked my cams near my ladder stand before leaving, & sure enough, I had a bird come prior to my arrival. Better yet, there's a boatload of deer passing thru just as I anticipated, including velvet, so this area is really looking all the more promising.

Called this jake in last Tuesday. Got him to cross a river. That was a first. My poor lay down hen was humped again. Also been after a bearded hen and been setup on her twice and once an eagle ruined my hunt. That was another first. She is in field right now but have to take kids to school. Hopefully she is out when I get home. Good stalking weather today.

I screwed up!Had one roosted less than 100 yards from me and I didn't know it til he gobbled at 6:15. I let out a couple soft yelps and he flew down in my direction. Popped his head over the hill in full strut. Drew back when he got behind a tree, fucker disappeared again and I couldn't hold it any longer, turns out he was just cresting the other side and saw me let down😡

I called in 5 jakes off the roost. In the low light one of them's 6" beard nearly got him killed. They were the only birds gobbling on the properties I could hunt. It started raining and the wind kicked up so I got out.
