Turkey hunt report '17

We abandoned the birds we were on at 1030. Went after one I chased for a few days. Had him showing off at 60 yards until noon. Big bird, hope we get him tomorrow.

Im out right now. Had a gooble behind me in a different direction than what I thought they would come. Tell ya what these crows will not shut up. Driving me nuts

Had a pretty cool morning. Morning started off bad when I opened the cap glass and the tailgate fell with it making a racket. Anyway, I make my way to the blind and settle in. Let things quiet down and then I open up on the slate. No response for a few minutes then I hear a gobble. Son of a gun it's behind me Again. So I give it a minute then call again to be sure. Yep behind me. So I quietly climb out of blind window and make my way to a thicket of pines to look over the grass field. Give it some time then hit it again. All of a sudden it was like a chorus of gobbles. I had 4 of them respond one right after the other. Unfortunately I think 3 of them were over the down the hill and across the street. However, I did manage to call in what looked to be a Jake to me but he was going somewhere in a hurry and only gave me a short window so he got a pass.

This is pretty fun stuff! Is there a pro-tip to have the slate call make the same consistent noise? Seems I'm always having to use the polisher to get a decent sound.

Sounds like a fun morning. Your done already, and what kind of slate do you have?

The birds went quiet on me for about an hour. Plus I got work to do. I bought it at the Athens trading post. Apparently it's made here local.

Yeah that's the one. Any advice?

I was able to try a Primos Bambozled and really liked it so I may have to try to find one and go that route.

I've been using the green pad but I have been going counter clockwise because I use the striker clockwise. I figured since it is a friction call the more roughed up the better within reason. Sounds like that may be wrong though.

I go side to side, same way every time. Just keep practicing. What kind of striker came with it, as far as type of wood?
