Last thought, if how you were taught, was so bad why do you still do it?That my friends never changes.Question that.
Man I was damn near nutting on myself. It was a trying season. Finally the stars aligned. I was more stoked over his button buck than any deer I’ve ever killed.Had my legs shaking like the gurls I dated in the nineties

I believe it just boils down to you can’t make someone do something they don’t want to do. Sure they will play along for a little. Then they will resent the very idea of going.
I never got the experience of going hunting as a young kid. So I can’t talk to what it was like. I was always at some kind of sporting event. That was the passion and I’m glad for that. But dang if I wasn’t watching Tom Miranda on ESPN2 Sunday mornings when his show came on.
I was raised in a house where parents word was law and ya didn’t want to disappoint. I was pushed to challenge myself in academics and athletic. I’m mighty thankful for that as it made me into the person I am today.
Back to hunting/ fishing. I was ate up with fishing and got to go whenever I pleased. I always had a blast. But, I pretty much had to start hunting on my own. I had a little guidance from gpa but he wasn't a big hunter, he’d just assume be out in nature with a book. I got lucky to run into a few people on here that showed me the ropes to deer hunting / coyote trapping and I have pretty much ran with it since. Heck even Brian tromped the woods up and down ridges with me last spring many hours to get me started into turkey hunting.
To complete my rant; I don’t think cell phones, games, or books in the stand disrupts from the hunting. Having dad, uncle, what-have-you make it miserable will.
If anyone knows the secret let me know, I got a couple college aged friends I’d like to get started into hunting.

Its not off subject at all, you have clear expectations for your children and they know how to act in differing situations which will improve as they become older in age and are exposed to more/different situations. Like you stated above its not physical action, its just consistency. I think when teaching something as intense (can't think of a better word of the top of my head) as hunting kids should have a certain amount understanding, discipline and respect for the animal and the sport. We literally are taking weapons, harvesting (taking the life of a living animal) to feed and nourish ourselves. I just think that some of the understanding, discipline and respect is being lost, not because the kids is playing a game on their phone, but because we have turned the experience into giant catering service of none stop entertainment/fun. This may not apply to anyone on this website, It probably doesnt, but I am seeing it more and more in kids that I have hunted with over the year especially in the 10 to 13 year range.
Sorta in a weird way, and I’m gonna get beat up with this. Anyhow it’s like a conservative becoming a liberal. Ugh. Yep I went and said it!
I respectfully disagree when you go to restaurants now days you see family’s on their devices, how is that not “disruptive” if they do it at the dinner table? What’s different in the woods?

I believe that is a very far comparison to make. A dinner table where discussions and conversations are free to carry on / are expected to happen vs the deer woods where conversations are quiet and reserved, seldom even.
But alas I’ll play. Phones go away for dinner. That’s just plain rude and drives me nuts.
Isn’t it your job as a parent to do the best you can. Whatever path you might choose, it’s your choice. I agree with what you’re saying, but I’m not going to hate on someone else’s choice either. Any way we can get the youth involved is ok with me. (Anything legal obviously) if you want to take a kid hunting over bait, enjoy! Want to take them in heated building with WiFi, enjoy! Want to take them and show them roughing it, enjoy! Key being, as long as you take them.
If you want to take away the electronics this year, go ahead. If he starts to wander and not wanting to go, maybe rethink your choice. But I’m not going to tell you what you should do with your boy. That’s on you brah! I will be standing by waiting on the updates. I love this shit!!!

The one thing that ive seen stop boys from hunting, even tho they love doing it: TnA. Once they get a sniff of that its usually over for a few years.
I love it. I agree, Yet here is a story. Way back in 1999 or so the the story goes....Had a mentor of mine sorta speak, bring his kid in to the fold.
He was an old timer 60 something and had a kid. He would always make his kids plate, always roll up his sleeping bag always cater to ho him.
One day as we walked down a dirt road to our spot. I asked him Charlie WTF are you doing with your boy.
He said “nickle” I’m enjoying the little time I have left with him. I look d at him and said Charlie I see that butt, what happens when God forbid ya pass on.

There’s no way he could ever fit in at camp with out you. If WiFi is mandatory bag rolled up mandatory food served. Sit in the blind ya built. Etc. little extreme yes.

Yes at a certain point after raising the kids for so many years, raising in the meaning of, having them come for years 7to 16, I figured they would want to to do it. Not consider it a killing weekend Xbox food friends they would learn the dates if they wanted to do it they would.once TNA came in to play it changed.
I stopped calling after age of 16, Wasn’t my kid and I figured by then they would want it or not. Maybe that makes me selfish!Yet At age 16 I was all in. Hunting season was in I went every chance I had.
It pains me to say I lost contact with a youth and by all means the kid fuggin had i,Hunting wise. He committed suicide . 20 years old. Sad.
YEP! No doubt about that one. Add sports in the equation and their time gets very limited. But, the important thing is, the seed was planted and someday they'll get back into it. I went through the same phase in HS where I hunted, but not nearly as much as I could've. Girls, sports, parties... they all took the front seat.
Same here. I was balls to the wall hunting from 7 until about 17. Then until 23 I was balls deep every weekend. LOL
Pusan was always nice. No freaking doubt about tit. Guess the difference was I enjoyed the woods and both. Had a really good buddy that sorta leveled that out for me. We would bow hunt then miss a weekend here and there.
But Never did we miss a gun season. After 16 years old I figured kids would either want to do it, or not.
