Looks like a trip to the gas station is in your future.😂
😆 yeah, in about 200 miles or so 😂

The last time it $ me somethin like 200 bucks I think to fill her up.
Anyway, receipt is in the center console of the truck. I plan on doing a final 🦌 hunting report of mine when I'm done. Obviously, I spent more 💰 on fuel this year to take care of the 🦌, and trying to hunt them.

Hopefully next year will be much different 🙏

Are you done for the season, George?

No, not done yet….our permit shotgun opened today. Still got a good buck on cam and he’s been showing during daylight a couple times over the past two weeks. I can hunt with a shotgun until January 31st.
Very nice! Hope you get'em.

Shotgun, boy do I like shooting them with my mine. Gets the old ❤️ just a pumping everytime too.

Well, best of luck to you mister! Can't wait to see you wrap your hands on another!

12:05AM, 01/08/23, Sunday: 'SWING & A MISS'

MuzzyOpenerCover.jpg

Hard to believe, but it's true. First group of antlerless came in and I had all the time in the world. I thought I hit my intended target, although the smoke made it quite difficult to tell, and while waiting for a little bit after the shot, two of them returned just minutes later to complete their meal, unknowing that I actually missed the first time. If by chance that I knew that I missed, I would have attempted to shoot one of the two that showed back up just minutes later. Oh well, as they say, 'ship happens!'

Anyway, all photography and video clips from throughout the entire muzzleloader opener for me are in the attached video. Many other deer encounters are included. I also attached a gif file of the very latest trail camera captures from the other farm, which is where I hunted today and will continue to hunt until I harvest a good size antlerless deer.

Hope you enjoy!

Back at it again tomorrow.

It was such a beautiful day to be out hunting though. Totally enjoyed my time out chasing tail, the furry kind that is. Several deer encounters throughout the day, including a young bachelor group during the last half hour, which carried over into the evening because the cell trail camera blew up with deer captures all night there.

9:00AM, 01/08/23, Sunday: 'Me Sleepyhead'

Can't believe I woke up late again, anyhow, got here a fraction bit earlier than yesterday. I saw no deer yet, even during my travel this morning.

Thought I'd go ahead and share what photos 📸 I've taken so far today.

@giles

"bummer", yes that I missed and yes that no antlerless showed up again after that first group, however I'm not the least bit worried of not having another opportunity before the season ends 😉

@Sgt Fury

Yesterday regarding my fuel gauge on the pickup, I failed to mention that I parked the 🚚 on a hill and the fuel pickup rejestures the ⛽️ lower than what is actually in the tank, that is why I go by the trip odometer than the ⛽️ gauge. I usually get 600 miles per fillup no matter how I drive or what I haul.

Now, if only those darn deisal prices would comedown pre current president at the pump, that would be a beautiful 😍 thing!

Now back to huntin.

Good luck to any 'TOO'zer that's also out today trying to poke a 🕳 in a 🦌

Everyone else, have yourself a great day!

Sarge, I'm happy to report that the old deer transporter is now full of fuel once again, somewhat 😂

You see, my credit card has a $150.00 cap per use for any type of fuel purchases at refueling stations, and it really sucks, ever since "Brandon" took office because I can never get to fill my pickup truck completely full when she's nearly empty. She has a 40 gallon tank and I'm just used to running her down to nearly empty every time, then go fill her up when the trip odometer gets near 600 miles roughly. I've been doing exactly that with this pickup for over twenty years now, and she still runs great too!

Anyhow, she's nearly completely full now, which she really might be shy by about 1 to 3 gallons from being completely full 😁

9:00AM, 01/08/23, Sunday: 'Day Two of Muzzy'

20230108_Cover.jpg

Video description:

Day two for the Whitetail Muzzleloader and I did not see any antlerless deer all day today, but I did get to see multiple deer, just of the other kind, the kind with antlers.

I got another late start again this morning, but I arrived at the other farm slightly sooner than yesterday’s late start. Because I was running so far behind and I was in a big hurry to get to the blind for primetime, I literally forgot to throw on my pack, which has all my hand optic stuff, such as binos, rangefinder, etc, etc,, I finally got settled by 9:00 a.m., ready for today’s muzzy hunt.

Unfortunately, I did not see any deer all morning long, and I wanted to start glassing the area really bad, so I ran back to the pickup truck real quick and grabbed my backpack and a handful of peppermint hard candy that I always have in the cab of the truck in bulk to replenish my pockets when I head out hunting. Afterwards, I hiked back to the blind, still not seeing or hearing any deer in the area.

Then I started to get hungry, so I pulled out the can of Progresso hardy chicken noodle vegetable soup. Heated up on my big Buddy Heater and had myself a good lunch.

The first deer to show up in front me was a little half rack young buck. It didn’t take long for some of the other young bucks to show up soon afterwards. That’s when I pretty much started documenting everything with my cellphone from inside the pop-up ground blind. I continued to take photographs and videos until shortly after legal quitting time despite that there were several bucks within the field out in front of me and more kept showing up. In fact, right after I closed up the blind from within it right at 5:22 p.m. sharp, those deer that were in front of me and the ones there were just showing up continued to graze, socialize and feed the entire time while I was packing up for the day. Once I was ready to make my way to the truck to head home, I peaked out the front window of the blind, and yup, sure enough, there were over a dozen deer not even 70 yards away from me and I wanted to go home badly.

So, I waited a few more minutes, and the deer appeared to be quite content on feeding and socializing. I decided to go for it, sneak out and being very stealthy while trying to escape from the area without disturbing the deer and well, I did it. I successfully made it to my pickup truck without spooking not even one deer. I was rather pleased with that.

After I changed out of my hunting clothes at the back of truck, I jumped in the cab and took off for home, but before that I needed to stop and refill the truck with diesel, then I made it home afterwards.

Just another fun evening watching all the young bucks. I’ll be back at it again tomorrow, still hoping to harvest a good size antlerless deer to close out my season successfully.

Good morning!

I still have yesterday's video to finish of my hunt at the other farm muzzy hunting. It should be another good one and I hope to have it available sometime today.

In meantime, I hope you enjoy the latest of Junior. He visited the feed station twice overnight. The first time is within the YouTube video and the the second time was moments ago, and I attached the gif file of him showing his second visit.

Have a great day 'TOO'zers!

Junior showed up at the feed station at home last night. Several other deer also made their way to the feed sites as well. Today is the last day of Whitetail Deer Muzzleloader Season 2023 and I am on my way to my blind at the other farm, lookin to harvest a nice size antlerless deer to close out my deer season altogether.

Your cam warmed up 12* in that series of last pics. That accurate or is there something wrong with it? That is substantial and I would think animals would notice that.

11:15PM, 01/11/23, Wednesday: 'He's in the home stretch!'

Brief update:

I was not successful in getting what I hoped for during muzzy, so I suppose I'll be making the effort in trying to tag out with the bow looking for a good size antlerless before the end of the hunting season, most likely during the week of the 20th.

Anyhow, I hope you all enjoy seeing Junior make it up to this point. He's in the home stretch and I do believe he will make it and be just fine. Now I just need Shybuc and one of the others to show up and life will be good for me, or as best as they can be considering what all occurred during the summer and early fall.

Junior will most likely see another hunting season, at least that's what it appears to me anyway of what might happen at this point and I'm elated about it.

Everyone have a great evening and thanks for checking out my latest update!

Good night!

Well, I'm happy to report that Junior made it through Ohio's 2023 Whitetail Deer Muzzleloader Season just fine. Now if the other two would show up soon, that would just be a wonderful thing, and if they do, you can expect another quick update video. Thanks for following and hope that you enjoy seeing this deer survive a rather difficult year for him, especially after being shot with an arrow back in November. Junior is a smart and strong deer. I have witnessed and observed him in action more than a few times out in the fields and woods. I really hope and pray that he continues good health, stays strong and continues to breed and grow.

9:30AM, 01/12/23, Thursday: 'Soupy Weather'

20230112_090447 Cover.jpg

Due to the weather today, I will be working on a lot of field hunting & trail camera photography/video content data that was recently collected over the past few days, and hopefully have some more videos available to share relatively soon.

Just to let you all know, I have full intention of going back through this entire journal, all of my field notes, and whatever else I have for the year, and try to include all of what is relevant and place them into this year’s journal, plus a final cost analysis report as well. Remember, this is work that is not only for your viewing pleasure, but it is all quite important to me because I learn so much from them, each time I get to go back and review them once again,

I certainly do not know what the tomorrows' will bring so, please enjoy them while you can because you just never know just how long I’ll be able to keep this all up, and kindly understand that it is work, and sometimes, quite fairly involved on my part, taking up a good fair amount of my time to do them all, which I can honestly say that I do enjoy when I have no other priorities hanging in the balance, if you know what I mean.

I completely appreciate all those that have participated and/or interacted within this journal/thread and a shout out to all those that threw out some kind comments, thank you all very much!

Just so you all know, I will be hunting during this month, weather permitting of course, and even if I do not fill my last deer tag, it will not hurt my feelings not one bit at all because we had such a horrible year with the EHD outbreak within our state.

Finally, there has been absolutely no deer movement recorded today during daylight, as you can imagine, but I am still receiving images of captured wildlife, which are included within this update.

Hope you enjoy! Thanks again all and have a blessed day!

Sincerely,

Denny – a.k.a. Wildlife, WIldlifeOhio

01/12/23 - Quick Noon Local Weather Update:

SmartSelect_20230112_114604_RadarNow!.jpg
SmartSelect_20230112_114642_RadarNow!.jpg

I cared to pass along this information since it's headed towards someone's way. It's a quick noon local weather update and I do expect our creeks to rise throughout the day looking out for potential flooding or levee breaks. I do believe we'll be just fine though, however if it continues to pour heavy rain the rest of the day, we may be in for an interesting night.

20230112_122802cover.jpg

12:50PM EDIT Update:

Our creeks will rise feet right before our eyes in a matter of minutes during or soon after any heavy rain and/or heavy snow thaw event, which always keeps me on my toes around here when they do occur for obvious reasons. Since the mid 60's when the farm was first built, there has been only two major floods which happened within recent years, just over the last decade, and those occurred during a late winter or early in the spring wet weather storm.
