I agree to a point j. But I think that just the fact of knowing teachers may be carrying would make these psychos think twice before entering a school or public place. They would have a fear that their sick fugged up thoughts may be ruined because people CAN actually defend themselves. Just my thoughts.

This in itself may very well be enough. I agree.

The best comment on the school securities that I have heard is put retired cops or ex-military guys there...they'd be good role models and could provide security.

Moundy hit the nail on the head...all of these shootings happen in no gun zones...churches...theaters...schools...

There have only been 2 mass shootings that have occurred in non "gun free" zones. The gifford shooting which occurred in a parking lot in AZ and there is another one but I can't think of it. ALL of the others have occurred where guns are NOT allowed by law.

My wife has her CHL and rarely if ever carries primarily b/c she can't carry at work (she's a teacher). Depending on where she parks she can't even have it in her car for to/from work. Her thought was let the teachers who want to carry, carry. She then would, and I don't think she'd necessarily confront a shooter, but if the active shooter came into her room, I really feel bad cause she can shoot.

What "good" does an assault weapons ban or magazine size legislation do?

True or False, Columbine occurred during the last assault weapons ban we had?

Yes, so I suppose if we reinstate legislation and perhaps put in stricter laws than the last ban things will miraculously be different...

I would love for someone to help me understand how expanded legislation will translate into criminals following laws...I struggle at seeing the logical reasoning.

I had a neighbor who used to say "I'd better do something even if it's wrong." A big part of what is going on is exactly that. Everyone wants a solution but the "need" to react quickly will probably only lead to ineffectual policies.

I don't know about you but it was instant tears when I saw the photos of them together after reading the letter....kids are really resilient and they shouldn't have to be...

While I was reading that story, my first thoughts went to "so sad that these kids have to deal with this crap", the very next thought was how does anyone's mind go from being pissed off about something to killing innocent, defenseless children (can't connect the dots on that)...but even more so, how does anyone reading that blame guns and not the a-hole who carried his plan out.

If anyone is interested............me and ZJ stopped for lunch at our local Arby's. They had a sign up that they are collecting donations (through United Way) for Sandy Hook victims.

I don't know, but I'm guessing that is probably throughout all of their chain of stores.

That letter was priceless. So innocent, genuine, and sincere. Just sad. Plain and simply sad.

Medical examiner might need to do some refresher courses or something it seems. To me it seems like it would be pretty obvious from the casings on the ground whether any 223 rounds were fired or not. I just fail to understand why there would be a reason to falsify any info. Unless it is so deeply entrenched in the media to paint a negative picture of the AR15s and the examiner was prompted to state "it was the long gun", I would say he is an idiot.
