Good to hear fellas! I know how it must feel Mike, so enjoy it brother!!!

I played in only my 3rd adult league game on Sunday and boy was it ugly. Our team has a ton of talent, but play sloppy as hell. I finally got my bat going against a guy who only feeds me offspeed stuff. I wasn't about to let him beat me like he did last time. Went 2-3 with 2 RBIs, 2 stolen bases and a run scored. Other than that, it was an ugly day on the ball field!

How in the hell did you get away with stolen bases, past balls? LOL

I wanted to make it to the game Sunday, but we didn't get out of Ripley in time. You playing this weekend?

We play this weekend, but in Ravenswood.

On the stolen bases that was just heads up baseball! I know they don't think I can steal, so they were not holding me on. The dude behind the plate had never caught before. So I waited until I saw him give a curveball and stole on first movement. Even with good throws, I was there. I can't steal with speed, so it has to be cunning that gets me there! Or a past ball like you said!!! lmao

That's why you make a good coach, you pick up on that stuff well.

What's the deal with traveling to Ravenswood?

The two news teams last year were from Ravenswood and Wirt County. We get something like 6th pick of the fields around here, so it is hard to get games in without another option. Unfortunately that other option is Ravenswood.

Just one more reason I'm done playing. Last time we played there, I was home at 9:30 on a Sunday night. Add the to forcing us to use wooden bats and being tired of tearing up my body, I'm done. I swore I wasn't catching this year and I spent 5 innings behind the plate Sunday. I still can't walk right...

Thanks man. I was curious how coaching would effect my desire to play and to be honest, I know without a doubt I'd rather coach. No less than 3 times Sunday I tried to move people in to position from behind the plate and they just looked at me like "who the fugg is this guy"? Next pitch or two, base hit that falls 2 steps from where I wanted them. Bunch of young hot shots who ain't listening to some crippled up old catcher.

At least with the high school kids, they listen or I can make them run. And I don't hurt for 3 days after a game.

I've spent the better part of my summers the last 20 years in gear behind the plate. I also grew up playing basketball on tile floors. My body did not hold up well. My mom and sister have been diagnosed with a genetic disease that causes loose joints and hyper flexibility. Judging by their diagnoses, I most likely have the same thing and it explains why at 30, I look mildly crippled some days.

I may be in serious trouble in a other 20-30 years if I'm not careful and try to get healthier.

After two tough tournament wins, our boys are playing for the championship tomorrow evening. It should be a great game as our boys have really got it together the last two games! Mason was 3 for 4 at the plate tonight, which is a big deal as his bat has been rather sluggish all season. We did some drills his grandpa suggested and its made a difference for every kid on the team - they crushed the ball tonight!

Kody and Klay's playoff run came to an end last night in the semifinals in an 8 inning, back and forth, affair. I feel awful for Kody because a key defensive play by him cost us 2 runs in a crucial point. There were kids on 2nd and 3rd and no outs for the Weirton, WV team and they hit a groundball to 2B. Klay fielded it, checked the runner at third (he did not break) and threw the guy out at first. The kid at third then broke for home on the throw and the first basemen threw a strike to the plate. The kid coming home froze and went back to third. Meanwhile, the kid that was on second was also at third. Kody ran at the kid coming from third and we were all yelling to run him back to the bag thinking the second runner was going to stay there. Then the second runner broke back to second... he was dead at second... Kody turned and air mailed it over Klay's head at second. Both runs ended up scoring.
Kody was just sick. In hindsight, with a 4 run lead at the time, he should've just ate the ball. But, heat of the moment and the excitement got to everyone and he just tried to make a play. It is one of those plays that just can't be simulated in practice and when it happens in the game you just hope execution occurs. He did everything right, just that throw was a bit high. Good learning experience though.

On the flip side, Kody was 2-3 with 2 doubles, a walk, and a K. Klay was 3-4 with 3 singles and a line out to 1B. They both had a great season. Kody gets to continue on with the tournament team. I feel bad for Klay because he just loves playing and he's out of games now. But, he will be starting football practice soon. He's begged me for years now to play pee-wee football. I finally caved in since he is in 6th grade. I figured I'd let him play one year before junior high. So, he will be busy soon enough. We used to always do fall ball, but football is taking over this year. Klay in pee-wee and Kody in 7th grade. I'm not sure I'll handle the baseball withdrawal after tournaments are over for Kody.

I may have played in my last baseball game this weekend. It was a bitter sweet day, but it was fun to have my little girl there so we could snap some pics to show her down the road. Had a lot of fun playing, but it is time to preserve what is left of this broken down body!

My buddy Bryan (Bloody Nock) and his little girl...

This picture defines my other passion and how I spent the better part of 20 summers of my life. I love seeing the game of baseball from this spot of the field...

My wife loves that setting on the camera!

On a side note, how about that NL Central race?!?

Not sure what the setting is called Ric. You can choose a color to isolate ad the rest will be in black and white. Pretty neat feature to say the least!
