Freezing rain

Opening day here is calling for 32 degrees with a wintery mix. Unfortunately the wind will be SE which is not the best of the blind, but it'll have to work. We'll have ice to contend with also, but I should be able to get it out in big chunks.

I've killed a handful over the years but never like this. It was just filthy in there with gray ducks.

I ordered a whistle tonight. Good addition to my lanyard? We basically have mallards and woodies here with blacks, ring necks, and mergansers thrown in for good measure. I was told a whistle was a good way to finish mallards. Truth?

I say truth. Even though it's bulky, I really like the sound of the Duck Commander drake whistle. Although I don't think it's as versatile as the other whistles on the market. I think the whistle is one of those under-utilized calls. I actually don't even own one, though... Typically, when I'm hunting with a few guys, it's the guy that can't blow a duck call that's running the whistle. LOL I won't sit here and say you're guaranteed to kill more ducks if you drake whistle, but I certainly don't think it hurts your cause.

I should get one for my dad then...he rolls his tongue and thinks he's feeding calling...sounds like a dam machine gun instead of a duck...we usually just tell him to shoot and put the calls down!

Lol... Yep, I know the type. God bless 'em. I'm a firm believer that some people just weren't born to blow a duck call.

Got a good collection of black ducks behind the house if you haven't tagged one of them yet they are here and purty

Tomorrow will be the best day of my life! lmao

The shallows in our spot are froze, forcing birds closer to the blind. Perfect duck weather. Birds are pushing south and we have a TON of ducks down here right now. And it is opening day of the second split here in the south lands! SO STOKED!!!

Yeah I cannot believe my brother won't be heading south. He must have bumped his head.

Awesome g. Good luck . Been scarce for ducks here . We're goosing tonight and I got a small river I saw 40 or so ducks in this morning . Not big numbers but its a small spot and most everything we see there should commit.

The creeks are freezing up here and there should be a good push south for birds. Lots of geese here though. Surprised I didn't see more divers yeatersay

Well , tonight wasn't the murder scene I expected, but we got 5 geese and 3 mallards . No complaint . Ain't much prettier than greenheads in a snowy cornfield
