4:30 wake up and out of the house by 4:50. It's a light misting rain here, doesn't look like we'll get snow. Also means my spot didn't freeze over after all that work to bust it open.

Gonna be a good day tater!

I wish i could field hunt today . Perfect condition here , cept not much wind . The wife has plans tho so I gotta do a quickie hunt this morning . Hopefully it don't snow to hard . It sucks dealing with snowy decoys .

We got fugged as the open end of our hole had water in it this morning. I wasn't prepared to choke it off with decoys. We have a decent hole to work with, but it's been tough sledding. Good news is we've seen 50-60 mallards, the most yet. I'm learning as I go, so I should just expect to fail. Most birds are high over the river it's just me calling, not a great thing! I'm a B- caller at best.

Time to fry up some bacon and eggs!

Slow morning...3 blacks and a mallard..Two different groups of people set up on both sides of us. Made it tough.

Had to play Mr. MOM this morning so instead we went scouting. There were 50 birds on the lake yesterday and today there was close to 2500!!! At 1015 they lifted up and split 50/50 towards different corn fields. Amazing sight to see!!! Saw several black, wigeon, and a few pennies mixed in. Doesn't look like i'll make it out all day which makes me SICK...... so sick that I may have to call off tomorrow morning LOL!

Scratched out another mallard. Not the best day of killing, but it's been action packed. Built the. Mind in the wrong place IMO, or I need to decoy differently.

All is not lost however...

Christmas came early! I sold the 1187 to my old man for dirt cheap and bought a Beretta A400 Xtreme. I went with the 26", 3.5 chamber in Optifade Marsh. The kick out system is unreal. A 3.5 shell has less recoil than a 2 3/4 out of my 1187. I can't wait to get her out on the water tomorrow morning! Ran me a lot more than I wanted, but I have plenty of time to regret it later.

I have a xtrema 2,the older version of that gun,its been very good,,I shot over 5 cases of ammo threw it before I cleaned it,the Beretta rep. said he has seen a lot more than that before it had any issues not cycling right, they are tough
