Went for bout 3 hours today,no gun Had 2 nice runs, saw 2 0thers.Good day rbn

I always carry the shotgun during season just in case I run into an unwelcome guest..... But the majority of the time I don't pull the trigger on anything lol....

You have any snow on the ground where you're at???? Glad too see you made it out in the colder temps....

My female's leg seemed better today and I have a long work week ahead so I took the dogs out for about one hour this afternoon. First rabbit ran straight to a hole. Second rabbit took the dogs on two really long circles before ending in a hole. Amazing how the warmer temps changed everything today. With the cold powdery snow last week, the dogs have been working hard and having trouble staying on a track. Today, they were on FIRE! I got to watch them work a couple of checks and they did so good!!! Just gotta love when there are good scenting conditions. :) :)

Long work week done. Weekend started at noon today. The snow quit around 2pm so I took a nap and woke up to the wind howling and snow falling sideways. What the? The dogs had not been out for a run all week so I took them out from 4-5pm, The snow was fresh and pretty deep. I did not take a gun. They got two rabbits up, but both runs were relative short to a hole. Still, I got them some well needed exercise. I hope to get them out some tomorrow.

A few pictures from today. A lot of shots of beagles with no heads. Funny to seem them bury their heads in the snow trying to find rabbit scent.

Yessirree, I went out today. Figured today was going to be better than tomorrow. Winds were predicted to pick up in the afternoon and so instead of waiting to warm up more, I went out around 10:15am. I think it was around 10 degrees and windchills were a little below zero. It was cold. Got one bunny up and moving in the pasture. I got one quick shot at it and missed and then watched it disappear into a groundhog hole. The dogs searched several other areas, but nothing moving. So we moved over to the woodlot across the way which was a little more tolerable as it was somewhat sheltered from the wind. It had started snowing by then. The dogs spent about 5-10 mins working a bulldozed pile of brush and finally a rabbit popped out. They chased it down a slope toward the creek. I saw a glimpse of it once. I was sure they were going to bring it around so I stayed put. The dogs just kept circling it down by the creek (were they on a different rabbit???). A few times I could barely hear them but they always came back around closer. Then my female decided she wanted to take a trip to the far end of the woodlot after her own rabbit. Had to go chase her down and bring her back. At least the walk warmed me up because I was freezing. I got her back with my male who was still going round and round by the creek. After a little bit more of that I was getting cold so I called the dogs and went home. We were out nearly 3 hours.

Then after lunch I noticed my male was squinting so I looked at his eye and he had a splinter of wood right in the middle of his cornea. So up to the clinic to work on him. Ended up having to sedate him and had mr. bluedog along to be my assistant. I had a HARD time getting that splinter out as it was embedded deeply and had broken off with no edge sticking out. Was worried that I was going to rupture the eye, but I got it out finally. The eye looks OK except for the gouge from where the stick went in. Poor dog's eye has to hurt like heck. Guess I won't be running him tomorrow on my day off. Weather is bad anyway.

So that was my excitement for the day. Here's hoping for better weather next weekend!!!!!!

Glad you got it out, but ugh, anything to do with eyes makes me squeamish. Hope he recovers quickly.

Without a doubt probably one of the best days afield without seeing a rabbit I've ever had lol.... Great fellowship with a good group of guys.... Lots of exercise too hood for both the dogs and us lol.... And old scout can really hang and bust some brush!!!!

J, Jesse, Huck Finn, huntn2, Kav, Old Scout, and myself hooked up yesterday in the crap weather. Nothing up and running but the dogs enjoyed the snow and I enjoyed the company.

Love the pictures! Nothing better than a rabbit hunting get-together with friends. Love it!

And my male beagle's eye looks MUCH better today. He was in rough shape last night, but was raring to go out and chase bunnies this afternoon. Alas the answer was "no". LOL
