Baseball....I love/hate baseball.
Love it in an esoteric "Field of Dreams" way.
Hate it because of the greed, arrogance, and twisted beast it's become at the major league level.
Even little league seems commercial and corrupt.

"The Sandlot" is a great movie. So is "Field of Dreams" and "Major League".

I'm eating blackberry yogurt my wife packed in my lunch.

HAHA! Well, those things can be taken care of before then!!! If not, I'll have to tell some good stories!!! lol

I was reliving my baseball days with my nephew the other day.. he was shocked that i was a fighter and got into a couple tussles in my time....his dad about shit a brick when my nephew ever asked him if he got in a fight during a ball game...my brother missed most of my games due to college so he was laughing his ass off...

We had a solid bench clearer playing Clarksburg, WV legion my last year. Team full of Clarksburg guidos that thought there were the Gotti's of the baseball world. They got pounded by a bunch of loser rednecks from Ohio!!! rotflmao

I called the famous middle-finger fastball in the top of the 7th with a big lead and our pitcher drilled this kid between the shoulders. That kid took about three steps out of the box when I came out of my crouch and tackled him. It was on after that. I live by two codes when I have gear on: Protect the umpire if he's a good dude/ump and no one touches my pitchers. If you think you wanna charge the mound, remember I'm not super fast, but I have long arms!!!

Forward or backward Milo? I did that on the B-Ball court. I saw a guy going after my fellow forward and I took off in a full sprint. His back was TOO me. I jumped at full speed, wrapped my arm around his head (reverse head lock style) and drove his face into the wood. The gym was in a frenzy and the game was cancelled. Cops evacuated the facility. The Principal called us in the office the next morning.

I thought we were done. We were all scared. He came in the door with a really grim face, sat down, and began laughing his ass off. Said he never wanted to see anything like that again. Then gave us each a pat on the back. There was a lot of BS going on and he understood.

Anyone who saw and heard it will never forget it. Did you go to school here locally? I was a Pirate (Cardington).

Sounds like a blast dude! I need to get my ass into coaching!!!

We have a great time in Columbus. Just about every high school coach in the state is there. Our entire local HS coaching community goes. We are rivals on the field, but we let loose at the clinic. The beer starts flowing and the stories start coming out. It really is a good time. We even learn a thing or two...
Usually some good speakers are there. They vary from hall of fame HS coaches to big colleges to pros. Every year LSU, Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, etc... are represented. Of course, Ohio colleges. Ohio State always sends someone over. Kent Tekulve was there one year. Kevin Seitzer, Billy Ripken, hitting coaches from MLB, pitching coaches from MLB, etc...
No pros this year, but looks like some good guys. I just glanced at the agenda, so I'm not exactly sure who is there this year, but I did notice no pros.
This will be my 11th clinic. Been going since my first year as a head coach.

The ride home the next day is always long one.

Ahhh... the old bench clearing brawl...
I was in them as a player. Knock on wood, I've never been involved in one as a coach. Although at Oak Glen, WVa two years ago I got tossed for calling this fat ass base ump a few names after he made 4 different calls on one steal attempt. I'm usually very cool headed, but this dude, who clearly never swung a bat in his life, set me off. Of course I threw in the usual lines... "You're fucking horrible", "Stupid ass call", yada yada yada... Our team was playing God awful that day TOO. That had me pissed off from the get go. It was one of those teams we should've 10 runned, but we let them hang around and they made it close. Anyway...
The state rule is that if you get tossed you pay a $100 fine, take an anger management class which is $75, and sit two games. As I was walking off the field one of our parents said, "Way to go coach!" I said, "Yeah, that just cost me 100 bucks!" I proceeded to walk outside the RF fence to sit the rest of the game. That parent comes up to me an inning later and taps me on the shoulder. He says, "Here, here's 100 for the fine and 20 to get drunk." I found out he passed the hat around to the team parents and they paid my fine. I about teared up. That was a pretty damn cool thing for them to do.

Later in the game my brother, who is my assistant, calls my cell. He wants to know who I want in relief (we had to save our better pitchers for a conference game coming up). Oak Glen's coach sees me on the phone and complains. The home plate ump then comes all the way out to RF to tell me I've been restricted to the bus because I wasn't allowed to communicate with the dugout. Of course I argued and said I was talking to my wife, but for fear of a forfeit I went to the bus. Hotter than hell on there TOO!

Sure wish I had played for a coach like you Mike!!! Certainly one with some stability. I firmly believe that we had state championship talent my senior year. We had 2 kids on that team play at Marietta under Brewer and there were 4 seniors that turned down scholarships. (I could have went to Muskingum, but OU sounded like a lot more fun after my visits!) We had 3 different coaches in our 4 years at Warren and it killed us. Both times we lost coaches, the team was split down the middle and it hurt morale. When we finally got a coach we all like (and one that could coach) it was TOO late to gel develop like we needed to. We lost in the Elite 8 to a team we should have beat. We were up 4-1 at one field when rain hit. They put us on buses and shipped us 45 minutes to a minor league field where both teams had to unroll the tarp and work on the field. Two hours later, we resumed the game but the damage was done. They pulled the pitcher we were killing (he had a verbal with OSU) and put in this kid that threw 60 with a 12-6 curve and he ate us up. The umps were also ready to get the game over and the strike zone blew up. I struck out looking on 3-2 counts with 2 outs twice in one game on the same pitch in the same location. To this day, I know I looked at ball 4 both times, but I also know I should have swung. We lost 5-4. I've never cried so hard in my life. I barely completed the top of the 7th because I was so torn up. The team we would have played in the Final 4, we beat in a pre-season scrimmage.

Ah, if only right?!?
