TOO Weight Loss - Biggest Loser Edition

Down to 214. We leave for the beach on 8/1, so I have 8 weeks to get down to 200-205. Work is about to get crazy, so I'll be even more pressed for time. Time to dig deep and see what I'm made of...

Good stuff buddy. Keep at it. It's a good feeling for sure.

When we left for Roatan I was 200 even. After a week there and a week back in the states I was worried I gained weight. Hoped on the scale the day after getting home and actually lost a pound. Apparently snorkeling burns 400-500 calories an hour and we would go a total of 3-4 hours a day, combine that with the lack of processed fatty food or junk in Roatan and I lost weight on vacation. Lol.

My body is ridiculous...

I've never been one to count calories, just monitor what I eat in regards to quality. However with no time to exercise and a diet that's been on point, I'm still not losing weight. I decided to count calories for two weeks, holding myself to 1,200-1,500 a day. Father's Day was the only exception and I drank at least a gallon of water 12 of 14 days. Despite all that, I didn't lose a single pound.

Holding steady at 215. If the Advocare challenge works for me, I'll sing it from the roof top! LOL

I used to drink water like that at one time, to the point I noticed swelling in my ankles. With only taking in those amounts of calories I'd watch that amount of water intake. Have you been able to get in any cardio? That should help some if your not already doing it, just an idea. How often a day are you eating?

Cough. Weight watcher points. Cough. If you count the points of what you're consuming on a daily basis and stay under your daily allotment it's impossible not to lose weight. Calories are very misleading. That's why WW doesn't even factor them in to a point calculation. The 5 values they use are fat, carbs, fiber, and protein. It's about a total balance buddy. Eat what you want. Just keep track of the points. I bet you find out things you thought were healthy, diet approved, or lower carb really aren't.

I only eat lean protein, fruits and vegetables. Like we've already discussed, counting points to me, is ridiculous. You don't eat points, you food. That said, I'm somewhat familiar with the WW system and I eat less points than I'm allotted. It obviously works for some, but it's not for me.

I've seen a bunch of people do excellent on WW only to fail later when they hit their goal. They loose interest in point counting and going to meetings and then slowly slink back to where they started. It does work well if you can follow the plan and change your habits.

That's why I focused on education and not "gimmicks" or diets. I've now read close to 5K pages on nutrition, food and food science. I've watched 20+ hours of similarly related documentaries. I feel like I'm fairly well educated on what I should consume. The changes I've made are paying off with energy and mental acuity, just not losing weight any more. That is what is somewhat perplexing.

That's because they fall back to the old unhealthy eating habits. You don't have to go to meetings or buy their prepared meals, just count points for a bit to help understand what you're eating.. Counting WW points is simply a better way to understand the listed nutritional values on foods. Instead of grams and percentages on the nutrition label it translates it to a point value. Which is super simple to understand. It simplifies paying attention to a balanced diet and making sure you're not overeating. It's not a gimmick, it just a simple method to count nutrition and stop overeating.

I lost 23 pounds in about two months which is a healthy weight loss rate at only 3 lbs a week. I didn't exercise or do shit. Once I started eating right my body naturally tried to return to my correct weight. My goal weight was 200 and I met it before vacation. After vacation a few weeks later I hopped on the scale expecting to have gained weight because I hadn't been paying any attention to points. To my surprise I was 194.... I continued to lose weight after I stopped counting because I had changed my eating habits and increased my awareness of how shitty some food actually were. Points don't tell you that you can't eat this or that. It just tells you that if you choose to eat half a pie you're probably done for the day. This week I started to try and gain that 6 pounds back. I look better at 200 and I don't like being cold in the stand. Lol. It's no more a gimmick than nutrition labels on food.

Well my last checkup at the doc's i weighed 217 back in April and today i am at 198.
Wife got me started on an app called my fitness pal which you just keep track of what you eat and log it in for breakfast,lunch,dinner and snacks.
Starting out you put your weight and height in and how active you are and how much you want to lose.
It will show you what your allowable calorie intake should be and how long it should take to reach your goal.
So far it has worked for me and my goal is between 190 and 195.

Good stuff man! Congrats. My fitness pall uses a formula of carbs, fat, and protein to set your daily caloric intake allowance. Similar to how WW does it except WW also calculates in fiber. But fiber isn't a huge factor in weight just helps ya poop. Lol. When you started tracking your food intake were you shocked at some of the things you ate previously. I know I was floored by some of the items. For example the wrap on a Chipolte burrito is way more fattening than everything in the burrito. You can still have it but it sure makes a dent in your daily allowance. If rather save that for other junk.

I haven't drank regular soda for a couple years now so that was not a factor,hate to see what it would have been like if i still drank the crap.
It really does help though to keep track of my intake and most days i am around 800 calories under my limit.
One big thing was cutting back on my sugar intake and i hardly ever eat bread.
Now if i am able to make it to the TOO outing i am so screwed that weekend.lol

Vacation is just 2 days away and the scale had me at 170.8 this morning. I'm fairly satisfied. I still have a little more belly fat than I'd like, but on the positive side I'm down just shy of 20 lbs. since April.

On a side note, I challenged on of my buddies kids to a push up contest last weekend. He's only 9, but a stud of a wrestler and had just finished up with a summer wrestling camp. I truly thought he would beat me. Little dude is ripped and was talking about doing 70+ push ups. I knocked out 59 and he only got in the low 40's. :smiley_champ:

Just an update on my situation...

I am still at 215, so it is very obvious that's where my body wants to be. I've avoided the Advocare Challenge to date in hopes I could achieve my goals without the aid of a "gimmick". I have been researching the Challenge and from what I can tell, the negatives can be corrected with the intake of proper foods and an additional probiotic supplement. After several months of eating clean and not being able to break the 215 mark, I look forward to the Challenge and what results it may bring.
