Spent a couple nights chasing the wide ten. I think I've seen about every deer I know but him in those two hunts. Couldn't hunt last night due to a 5pm baseball game, so glad that was the last one of the year! BTW, we got run-ruled in 3 innings. The first two were brutal, our opponents used our early pitcher for batting practice. We sent Mason Valenzuela in for the third. Four straight strike outs... yeah, four due to a fouled up dropped third strike. That kid's hitting has been off and on, but that boy can pitch a baseball! So we arrived home about dark and had a text from a buddy that his son had shot a nice buck. We were anxious to help in tracking and recovery... it was a blast, and found the buck after a 150 yard or so track. A giant-bodied buck, with a nice set of antlers on top. Mason asked what I thought the deer would score, and Isaac interrupted to say, "Who cares, this is what I'm after"... as he ran his little hand along the deer's fur-covered backstraps. Good kid! We were super excited for him!

I should add that Mason was furious we couldn't make the Stroud's trip this year. In an effort to soothe the burn, I invited his buddy, Noah and his dad Dave over to go squirrel hunting. We killed ten, spent half of Saturday in the woods, and the boys played wiffle ball until dark. They still had a good time, but mentioned we should have been in Athens a few times. Obligations are something kids don't fully understand.
