Went out the other night attempting to try targeting Blue's for the first time with bivobuck. We were somewhat successful, just like any other fish each species is different, the same goes for different species of cats.
After maybe being a little slow getting Shane's fish netted, his rod broke and the fish spit the hook. I was able to put a tagged smaller blue in the boat. All fish were released and in this case reported, to be caught another day.
I've always heard that the bait has to be alive. I've never caught any big blues though, always around the same size you caught.
They like to suspend. My understanding as long as it's fresh cut or live will work. We were using fresh cut gills. Flatys are the picky ones wanting live bait. We did not get the scale out but Shane's that he lost looked close to double digits, the other that I put in the boat was around 5#'s.
Just trying to figure them out. Like I said, thinking about heading down to Louisville and try to find some monster blues later this fall.
What? Shane doesn't get his picture on too????
Gotta put fish in the boat to get your pic on here.
