Bit of a rough start this morning. Got all the way up in my stand and realized I forgot my phone in the truck. I have an appt today I can't miss so I had no choice but to go back and get it. Of course, after I got in the first time quick and stealthy. I come back the second time and hear crashing through the phragmites... A buck grunting, chasing a doe, less than 50 yds away from me. I hunkered down in the grass for a few seconds. I figured it was dark enough and they were preoccupied... I crouched and kept moving through the grass quickly... That bitch blew at me and I could hear her bound away. The buck kept grunting as he chased so maybe he wasn't spooked.

From yesterday. For my flatland brothers, this stand ain't for you! 😂 I know a few guys here that would shit their pants come daylight! Wish I'd saved some of the texts I've had over the years after it gets light and one of my flatlander buddies realizes what kind of stand they are sitting in! For reference, on the up hill side of the tree, my stand is only 10' off the ground. If you fall out the other side, it's 30' to the creek. The tree grows out of the hill at an angle, then sorta straightens up. Enough to hang a slightly unlevel stand in anyways! 😂

2 does in the corn on the way I wind is picking up here. No rain yet. We're due to get hit from 8-9:30ish. This blind overlooks a skinny pinch between hillsides. I put a long clover plot in this year, so that gets the milling around. A good 10+ acres of great bedding all around. Plus cut corn on the ridge. It's my easiest spot to access and any wind but an easterly one will work, so it gets hunted a good bit these days.

Windy this am and a little warm but reprieve from rain. Saw three on the drive in so hopefully they’re up and at em.

Just got done typing that when a nice 2.5 yr 8 strolled under my stand and sat for 5 min munching. I pray he’s back out tonight when i have my young one with me. FWIW no sign of searching or urgency.

Anyone else think there are a lot of green leaves still on the trees? Usually by now I can see further into the woods. The deer are going to be in close before I can see them.

I stood and scanned all morning Tuesday and still got snuck up on. Lots of leaves still on and wet conditions make it tough. Especially when hunting stands with multiple trails leading to the area.

I will start by saying, I never wanted a cat. Get to my stand this morning and it turns out our cat followed me to the stand. Figured fuck it I'll climb the tree and she'll walk home. Nope, she climbs the tree with me. She finally climbs down and meows her head off for 10 minutes straight. All the while I have 4 mature does and 2 young ones coming in. What follows mature does this time of year? Yes, mature bucks. He's not a monster but the best I've had on cam since we moved into our new place. Cat spooks the does with her meowing and the buck followed before a shot was offered. Moral of the story, fuck cats!
