One of the deer drives on the last day of gun season we pushed out a creek bottom and jumped a few mallards along with a lone grouse... One of the guys that’s hunted this property has never seen a grouse in 30years of hunting there...

I took dad's old bow to the woods tonight. Spooked a couple going in. Saw just one doe and a small buck. I drew on the doe. I decided to let down as I thought I'd get a better shot at her. I didn't. No big deal. I'll try again soon. On the ground and a decent opportunity at 25 yards, not a bad evening. All the fun, no mess. I wish I had a way to snap a pic from my point of view. That big Zwickey looked awful pretty pointing at her ribs!
Those Zwickey heads look badass even pointed at your own face! LOL Sounds like a fun hunt Brock. I spent some time on the ground this year and although you sacrifice view, I like being close to deer like that. With our topography, there are lots of places to sit above shelves and creek bottoms that make for a good sit.

I don't care for the GoPro vids I've seen. Maybe I'll get one someday.
Mason went with his buddy Josh today. They saw three bucks this morning. Josh had only a doe tag. Mason only carried a vid cam, got some good memories on film. They didn't see any deer tonight but did see a bobcat.
Mason apparently took a nap. Josh caught the moment with his phone and sent this pic....

My buddy Tony and I chased wild pheasants today. He took his little pointer and I took Ruger. They work well together. They got us into two coveys of quail and 7 rooster flushes. Most of the pheasants flushed out of range, but I managed to kill two and Tony missed another that was perhaps a little too far. It was a great couple of hours of bird hunting. We will probably be chasing wild birds a good bit while Mason is on Christmas break. I'm looking forward to that! Tony has a big farm and raises birds to hunt so we will be going over to work the dogs at his place some too. I'm glad our buck tags are filled...we just don't have time to deer hunt. LOL

My childhood hunting buddy had two Springers when we were in high school. I had no idea there were wild birds still around back then until he acquired those dogs. We killed a pile of them It's the same today, I think. Anyplace there is suitable habitat, we seem to find birds. Sadly modern farming practices are not conducive to good habitat. Wild birds haven't changed, they just don't have many places to live.
Btw, our favorite bird thicket from 30 years ago is now a housing development.

Tyler, 30 years ago Kingston and Whisler were a couple of our favorite areas. We killed birds all up and down 159.
This place is close to the county line on 62. Has a big ass pond in it to. I think the owner must’ve got tired of the birds getting hit so he mowed an edge on the field this year. Seems to have helped as I haven’t seen one since.
